That big text looks awful. I'd like to revert the change, but since the discussion to make the change was on IRC, I have no idea why it was made. Cool Cat, please change it back! The template looks horrible now. If it was to make the Japanese more readable, it shouldn't have been changed. If a reader wants to see the kanji, he or she can increase their browser's text size. ~MDD4696 22:16, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

Thats one of the reasons. I am sorry but we try to make wikipedia readable at default size...
Titles need to be larger than body text. It makes sense.

I agree, the large text is ugly. There are other ways to make the title row stand out from the summary text, like that which is done with {{Japanese episode list}} (see Template talk:Japanese episode list for help). -- Ned Scott 10:47, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
It is only logical to make the titles larger. The episode has a title in two different languages (the official kanji (japanese), often unofficial english, and unofficial romaji (japanese)). LOE template renders some kanji characters unreadable (see below) and occupies unnecesary amount of space (as seen on air list).

LOE template does one thing to Kanji, it places (parentheses) around it. The small formatting was taken out. (actually, it was out of the normal template a while ago, but had gotten left over in the (no images) version.) Kanji on Wikipedia has almost always been rendered in "normal" size when used in articles, and I've yet to hear anyone complain about it. This also only explains the Kanji, not the English text being needlessly ugly.
I don't see how it's logical to make the titles larger. It's logical to make them stand out, yes, but you can make something stand out without it being an eye-sore. And just because you can cram more text into one line doesn't make it a good thing. LOE's template has several optional parameters that result in possible additional columns, and takes small monitors into consideration. Placing everything on one line might save more vertical space, but in this case it's horizontal space that is the valuable real-estate. Having all the titles on one row can sometimes make things look cluttered and make it harder to have titles stand out. -- Ned Scott 10:02, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
There is no real-estate here. We should be just evading unnecesary ceation of big gaps.
There is also no point in peresenting kanji if it is going to be unreadable. Japanese wikipedia uses a different font because of this reason I believe as english wikipedias font simply murders some of the kanji as seen above. I do not believe this issue has been addressed on english wikipedia just yet. Meanwhile I do not see a reason why we can't present readable kanji.
The most seemingly insignificant peice of info loe template presents is kanji, the official title... One reason, if not the only reason, I object to the LOE template as both templates on many aspects are identicle now aside from that.

Is there any reason the English text needs to be the same size as the kanji? I think the template looks fine if we only make the kanji bigger. ~MDD4696 14:50, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
I have no reason to oppose/object to that but how about bolding the text instead? I just want to keep it uniformal but it isnt really that improtant. How about you make that edit? :) --Cat out 16:26, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

    depends on the browser, and users can always change their own personal defaults on their own computers. The template displays Kanji the same way one typically finds kanji on the English wikipedia. The Kanji is also non-vital episode data, it is included to benefit those who can read it and might wish to further explore internet searches and research using those titles.       • Optional parameters added are, as you said, optional. This is no different from a typical infobox template. Some shows might have data that would warrant some kind of extra parameter. [edit] Why do we include japanese characters?

Why do we include japanese characters and names? It's an english encyclopedia, after all. Has this been discussed before? What's WP policy on foreign names? It makes for horrible formatting. - Peregrine Fisher 05:19, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

We write out articles in English, but it's ok to mention names in other languages. It's a way to reference the original names, since translations can easily vary. For example, lets say you want to do some additional research after reading an article, so you search for some titles of works (be it TV show or book or whatever). Having the original name provides a reference. Often a title in Japanese can have more than one "correct" translation, but be spelled or worded very differently. Even the converting of Japanese characters to Romaji can result in different spellings. At least, that's how I've always thought about it. -- Ned Scott 06:01, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Well, to be honest, that's how I feel about over-all names. I'm not sure how important it is for individual episodes. Once you have the original title for the show, that's usually all you need. I guess my head was a little turned around and didn't notice which talk page this was, and that we were talking about the episode lists. For the lists I'd probably lean towards excluding them, but I don't really feel strongly about it. -- Ned Scott 06:48, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
