[edit] Cello and piano

Aren't solo pieces the same thing (basically) as compositions for cello and piano? There seems to be another separate page, List_of_compositions_for_cello_and_piano, for that. Hmm... interesting. Shouldn't the two be merged? Flcelloguy 13:36, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Very belatedly - no, I had in mind true solo pieces (continuo is a touchy point *g*) - Bach, Bloch, Reger cello suites, Ysaÿe, Kodaly, Wellesz (someone should make a CD of that, the LP was good...) cello sonata... cello and piano work page was misnamed (hrm, time for a redir?...) - for cello with accompaniment (usually piano or harpsichord but sometimes, as with Dupré and Rheinberger who also did write a sonata with piano, organ... ([1] reviews a disc of some cello and organ music, also. And cello and harp, for instance a work or two by Edmund Rubbra for that instrumentation, and I think a duo by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco also. And a Gubaidulina work for cello and accordion, if memory serves. And etc.) Schissel : bowl listen 06:49, Jun 22, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Italics

The titles of all the pieces should be in italics. Hyacinth 07:01, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

I base my statement that this is not so, on this section of the relevant manual of style. I realize I can be rigid, but Gilbert and Sullivan had it right this time (if everything's... well, you know the line.) Schissel | Sound the Note! 17:45, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Yuriy Leonovich

I deleted Leonovich and his work from this list, because he is an insignificant cello student who happens to compose and think highly of himself. He immediately reverted it (conflict of interest!), so I'd like to get consensus before deleting it again. I simply don't think he fits on this list with all of the great composers. Thoughts? 129humility 15:50, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Passacaglia - Theme and Variations by Handel

This piece has been deleted twice. But there is indeed a solo cello version of the Passacaglia as I have the printed music in front of me at this moment. There is a recording of it here [2] (CD2 number 14) played by the well known cellist Tim Hugh. It is an extremely difficult piece and even the recording does not play all the Variations. The recording says it was "arr. Halvorson" my music says it in Russian arranged by Дынова (My russian is not very good) Swanstone 19:18, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hindemith Solo Sonata

The latest New Grove dates the Hindemith as 1923. Where does the 1919 date come from? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jleathwood (talkcontribs) 15:09, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
