Talk:List of schools in the West Midlands

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

WikiProject Schools This article is related to WikiProject Schools, an attempt to write quality articles about schools around the world. If you would like to participate, you can edit the article attached to this page, or visit the project page.
List This page is not an article and has, therefore, not been given a rating on the quality scale.
Mid This article has been rated as mid-Importance within Schools.

Is this article intended to be a list of schools and their location with appropriate Wikilinks to other information, as per most of the list, or is it intended to be a list of links to the school's web sites as appears to be the case in the Coventry section of the list?

May be the purpose needs to be clarified at the top of the article for future editors to follow.

[edit] High Schools

There is no section for high schools, there are several in worcestershire like South Bromsgrove High School.

There is no reason why there should be, high schools are covered by the "Secondary Schools" sections. The difference is merely one of semantics and not practice. Rje 01:22, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Style

Each entry into this article needs to follow a consistent format, at the moment it's a bit of a mess.

I propose: Name of School - Location

I don't think specialist status such as language college, sports college etc. is necessary in this article, that's something for the articles on the schools themselves. I'm going to cleanup the article now. Alex9788 (talk) 10:44, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

I just started to implement what I wrote above, but it's a big article so I've barely scratched the surface. In fact it almost seems like I've made it more of a mess than it was before. I'll try and do some more later, and I'll add a cleanup tag. Any help from other editors is greatly appreciated, as are suggestions to improve the style, format and appearance of this page. [edit] Split article?

Should this article be split into seperate lists? It may make it more manageable. Please comment, Alex9788 (talk) 11:27, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

I agree, it would be much better to split this article into lists representing each individual county as opposed to the entire region. This list could double in length quite easily if every school was added! - Erebus555 (talk) 14:58, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
I'd suggest that if it's going to be split, then it should be by LEA. Fingerpuppet (talk) 21:24, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
As no one has opposed the idea, I will set about splitting the article in the way suggested by Fingerpuppet. - Erebus555 (talk) 14:33, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
It's been about one and a half weeks and I have finally finished writing the List of schools in Birmingham article. I think you can appreciate how much work the next batch of lists are going to require if they are to be structured in a similar way. So, any help in working on the articles would be very much appreciated! Thanks. - Erebus555 (talk) 20:22, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
