Talk:List of rugby league incidents
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I fail to understand how mere allegations are sufficient to constitute illegal off field conduct. Same goes for Jarrod McCracken incident. Bizarre and unfounded. - Tim
Removed the Matai incident after he was cleared and all charges dismissed. He further faced no suspension, fine or any other punishment from his club or the NRL.
Also took out Matthew Eather & Greg Bain neither are notable enough and neither have or ever will play first grade rugby.

[edit] References:
I'm working my way from the bottom (newest incidents) to the top (older incidents) to add more references. Will eventually get there in the next week or two. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 203.214.139.130 (talk) 06:02, 12 April 2007 (UTC).
[edit] Referencing of incidents complete
The long job of referencing all these rugby league incidents is now complete.
There was only one incident I could not find any reference to:
"*(Players unknown) - 19 year old woman alleges sexual assault by Cronulla Sharks players at a hotel in New Zealand"
Maybe you can find it and add it back into the 2002 section.
Please, if you want to add more incidents, add references with it. It's too hard for others to do it later :) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 203.214.139.130 (talk) 10:03, 15 April 2007 (UTC).
[edit] Article name
I really think this page (if it must exist) should be re-named Rugby league-related incidents. Rugby league is a sport and these aren't sporting incidents (as the article's title suggests). The only thing they all have in common is that they're related in some way to rugby league. The title should reflect this.--Jeff79 22:39, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
It is a list of incidents by Rugby League players.
These incidents are part of the sporting news. If you look at the newspaper references, they are all reported in the newspapers' sports sections, and in their League sections (rather than the news sections).
Just like they report misdemeanors by singers in the entertainment section, even though those misdemeanors may not be intended as entertainment.
BTW, I deleted your post about singer Casey Donovan having a "catfight" with her friends after watching a game of League. Mainly because she doesn't seem to belong on a list of misdemeanors perpetrated by League players. If she was on the list, she would have been the only one to not be a League player or have anything to do with it (apart from being a fan).
If there was a list of incidents by League fans, it would be very very long!
I'm sure Casey's wiki page would be a great place for an expanded coverage about her arguments with friends.
- Hence my wanting make the article's name more appropriate. This article does list incidents involving rugby league players. But (using an argument similar to your own) it doesn't list every incident that has involved rugby league players off the field as it too 'would be very very long'. You're trying to argue for the broader title of 'rugby league incidents' while actually arguing that it should be even more specific, i.e. 'incidents involving rugby league players'.--Jeff79 00:32, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

- I didn't start the article, but I spent quite a lot of time looking for newspaper references for the unreferenced stuff. Most of it is rugby league off-field incidents. Then again, there was once incident where a player threw a bottle at the crowd, which I guess is on-field. Maybe it could be called Rugby League Player incidents. Then again, I think the original title is OK. Whatever it is, it should be simple. There's also an equivalent page for the AFL which some people keep updated.
[edit] Being anonynmous
Why don't any of you editors to this page (apart from Jeff 79 and Tiburon) sign your posts here ? Sticks66 15:00, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
- Because they're using wikipedia for a blatant awareness-raising campaign, not as an encyclopedia.--Jeff79 19:27, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Deletion
This page should be deleted. The person that made this is a gayfler. Unless a similar page exists for gayfl, socer and union, this page should be deleted and the person that made it sent a warning about potentially libellous material. I am therefore going to delete it. --144.132.216.253 19:21, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
- What's a "gayfler"? :) If you actually read the League Incidents page, you would have found a link to the Union Incidents page, so there already is one. Of course, a page that lists the misdemeanors of League players will upset some league fans who would prefer the incidents were forgotten. The page is one of the most thoroughly referenced articles in Wikipedia, and the sheer number of newspaper references shows there has been enormous public and media interest in the subject.203.158.46.202 20:53, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
- I follow this from Hong Kong. Study rugby league incidents. This is the best list of everything happened. Very good list for study the male culture 202.82.32.177 18:12, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Biased
Is this article somewhat biased to the 1997- period, surely there were incidents pre 1996.
I know it is harder to find this information but this article is really pointless.
SpecialWindler 21:21, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- Oh wow, it's back. Yeah, I don't mind it existing that much. But I guess the poeple who created it need other articles to link to it, so they go around slotting links into other rugby league articles, which I'm against. My main problem is with the article's name, as outlined in my discussion above. This is clearly not a list of "Rugby league incidents" so much as it is a list of "Off-field indescretions involving professional rugby league players".--Jeff79 23:11, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- I hope you can some incidents find before 1996. This will very useful be. Please find them, hurry. Very good list 202.82.32.177 18:15, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
