[edit] "Software applications"
Since user EagleOne and I have started a mini edit-war over whether "software applications" is redundant or not, I'd like to ask why you (EagleOne, or anyone else) think it is appropriate to use the term within this article, but not within its title. Okay, so adding "application" implies a subset of software which users use to perform certain tasks (are we on the same page?), but if you want to get technical about that, my question then becomes why limit this article to covering a subset of software? The benefit of this is not immediately clear to me. --Monger (talk) 22:41, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
- My question is why you're fighting with me over stupid crap like this, instead of fleshing out the damn article?? I put "software applications" in the intro for a reason: so that this page would stay focused on software applications, and not branch out into regex engines, API libraries, languages, apps, etc., like the Comparison of regular expression engines page. — EagleOne\Talk 23:46, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
- I'm fighting with you over stupid crap like this because a part of me is incredibly anal, which I see is a trait you at least partially share or we would not have already reverted each other twice over this minor issue. Personally, I'm not worried about this article branching out into the types of software you mentioned, since in its current state this article is fundamentally different from the regex engine comparison article anyway (it doesn't get into a feature-for-feature comparison of flavors, APIs, algorithms, etc.) Also, your comment here is interesting considering that I believe I have contributed more to fleshing out this article than other editors combined, so far (of course, I hope to see more contribution from more people, including yourself). In any case, I'll drop this unnecessary battle for now. ;-) --Monger (talk) 00:38, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Aspects to compare
This article currently contains the following columns in the main table: Name, Genre, Regex flavor(s), Regex algorithm, Operating system, Programming language, and License. However, I do not think the programming language column is very relevant or useful in this article. Does anyone disagree, or think there are other columns that should be added or removed? Pending any feedback on this, I plan to remove the programming language column within a day or two. --Monger (talk) 23:30, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
