Talk:List of physiology topics: respiration

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This page is to broad. For a page like this to be helpful it must dichotomize the physiology of respiration. This seems to have the opposite effect. Bensaccount 22:24, 27 Feb 2004 (UTC)

This is just unmanageable...Bensaccount 22:30, 27 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Ok heres a solution: This page becomes Respiration (physiology) and branches respiration into gas exhange and control of gas exchange (and maybe a couple more topics that break apart respiration). There is no need to broaden the subject by adding types of diving and general anatomy.

About the anatomy section:

Sure anatomy (aka organization) is necessary to understand physiology (function), but the purpose of making a specific page for the physiology of respiration should be to exclude anatomy (as much as possible). Ideally you should be able to talk about the physiology of respiration and let the text hyperlinks take the reader to the appropriate places to fill in the background knowledge. (this goes for stuff like diving too).

These ideas are good but I still think theres something lacking...Bensaccount 22:44, 27 Feb 2004 (UTC)

My final thoughts:

To provide the best organization, it should be that the physiology page links to this page renamed as respiration (physiology). This page should link to the standard (non-physiology) respiration page, which is currently called gas-exchange, and to other pages which subdivide the physiology of respiration, such as various physiological mechanisms of respiration. E.g. mechanisms for the control or respiration. Any subjects that do not subdivide the physiology of respiration should be removed. Bensaccount 22:52, 27 Feb 2004 (UTC)
