[edit] Roy D. Mercer
Roy's radio station is in Tulsa, but how do we know that Roy himself is from Tulsa? And not from Inola or Barnsdall? The article about him doesn't mention where he's from. Tex 18:00, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
- I've removed this entry as "Roy D. Mercer" is a fictional character, played by Brent Douglas, and not an actual person.-LeflymanTalk 19:38, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
- I was the one who originally added Roy D. Mercer to the Tulsa article. May I direct your attention to [Discussion re Famous Tulsans]? "He" was added because the section originated, not a list of people, but as a commentary on the influence of Tulsa on our culture at-large. While I agree that the character doesn't belong here, in a list of real humans, he clearly has had an influence. It would be nice to find a way to mention him, perhaps back in the main Tulsa article under Tulsa in Entertainment. Of course, adding another bullet item would go against the objective of getting Tulsa's article to feature status. --N35w101 03:04, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

- I've added him to the Category:Fictional people from Oklahoma. That should take care of it nicely, eh?--N35w101 21:06, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Category:People from Tulsa, Oklahoma
I have gone through the people listed on this page. For every one that has an article, I have added them to the Category:People from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Exceptions (because their affiliation can't be verified by reading their article or external links): Iron Eyes Cody, Julian Rebolledo, Russell Myers, Jeremy Castle, Sammy Sosa. --N35w101 21:06, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
Most of the famous people that originate from Tulsa, moved away, Will Rogers, Garth Brooks live in California. Some have vacation homes here, but no permanent residency, Bill and Hillary Clinton got into the White house and now they are in New York!—Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.187.154.33 (talk • contribs) 15:22, 16 July 2006
- I know this comment was made a year ago, but I just have to say, Garth Brooks lives between Owasso and Claremore about 10 minutes north of Tulsa, and he lived there in July of 2006 too. Okiefromokla•talk 20:52, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Cleanup 2007
This article needed some major love, and while someone may not like the way I did it, at least it looks more respectable now than it did. There were many inconsistencies in the listings (some commas, some dashes, some with periods, some as bulleted lists and some as not, etc.) that it was driving me nuts.
I'd like some help on categorizing the Jennifer Berry listing... would it be under Screen? Or a new category "Pageants"?

[edit] Additions
Since it seems I'm the only maintainer of this article, I'd suggest a policy to prevent me (and perhaps others) from removing (seemingly) unimportant people from the list. E.g. someone added "Keith C. Hester, Chemical Engineer" to the list -- for one, the title "Chemical Engineer" alone does not make someone famous. Secondly, there is no article for this person. Thirdly, a Google search for that name turned up nothing. For future reference, I recommend you either discuss new additions on the talk page (unless their notoriety is obvious) and/or create a Wikipedia article for them before linking. Tim Morgan 14:23, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed. Although I can tell you that nobody is going to discuss anything, they'll just go ahead and put stuff up there. If a new addition to the list isn't sourced (and, of course, if a google search turns up nothing) then it is obvious that the person is not famous, so its simply up to us to delete or revert such edits. Okiefromokla•talk 00:19, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
- On that note, we should probably start finding sources for the people already listed, and clean up the list a bit, for example, I don't think its neccissary to say that the a former mayor of Tulsa is from Tulsa, nor does that make him famous. Okiefromokla•talk 00:22, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Citations
I've started to add some citations as I get time to go through and find/learn about the people on this list. If I can't find a person on Google within a reasonable amount of time, I'm removing them from the list. I may not be doing the citations to everyone's liking, but at least it's a start. --Tim Morgan 17:04, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
- There are no references or external links on the Joseph N. Cameron article. Google searches turn up little -- just links to his page on Wikipedia and to this article. If this person is really notable enough to be in Wikipedia, wouldn't there be evidence of this fact elsewhere on the Web? Can someone point me to it? If I can't find anything, I'm going to assume it's a hoax. Tim Morgan 15:19, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
