[edit] Photos

If anyone has any suggestions for other photos, either of other people or simply other shots of the same people, feel free to implement them. I realize I have four white men and a sketch, but we don't seem to have many photos of famous women or famous people of other races from Dayton. Newsboy85 (talk) 18:27, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

I think you've arguably picked the "most famous" for each category. Some more diverse options would be:

I passed on Edwin Moses for the same reason. I also decided against Allison Janney because her most notable role, as mentioned in her article, is on the West Wing, and I figured Martin Sheen was a better choice as the lead for the series. Nancy Lynn or Cathy Guisewite may be good, but either one would mean removing Paul Laurence Dunbar. However, Nancy Cartwright may be a good substitution for Sheen - she may not be as notable, but it gives us at least a little more diversity. Newsboy85 (talk) 01:10, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Bands

I, for one, would like to see Dayton bands posted on this list. I realize there's a technicallity that they're not really "people" (although they are a group of people) and there can be difficulties if some members are not associated with Dayton (Dead Poetic are not 100% Daytonian, but are usually considered to be "from Dayton"), but I think reasonable determinations can be made. At one time, I had the (now deleted) list of bands from Ohio broken down by city, which I felt was effective at demonstrating the larger number of notable bands to come out of a city Dayton's size. Music of Ohio specifically notes Dayton's funk scene in the 1970's. Perhaps a subcategory of Category:Ohio musical groups could be created and referenced, but then I question why not categorize the whole list, or, would that be overcategorization? I just think listing them here is a good compromise for all these concerns. Hoof Hearted (talk) 19:29, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Personally, I'm not sure the bands should be here, not only because they're not people but also because notability and city association are tough to establish in some cases. Still, I wasn't going to delete the text during the move. I know they all have pages, which establishes at least some notability. I don't mind making them visible again, I just didn't know what consensus was on them and don't have a strong opinion about them myself. Newsboy85 (talk) 01:15, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] To the maintainers

You my be interested in adding all people listed in Category:People from Dayton, Ohio, there are about 312 at the moment. This would make the article more similar to List of people associated with Columbus, Ohio which needs an update as well. Just a thought. §hep¡Talk to me! 23:39, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
