[edit] Birth locations

I replaced "Fairfield" with "Bridgeport" next to John Mayer's name because, although he was raised primarily in Fairfield, he was born in Bridgeport. Additionally, I should point out that I've never given Rivers Cuomo a birthplace because he consistently gives his home town as "Yogaville" in interviews, and that was just a commune located around Mansfield/Windham in the 60s-80s that he grew up on. However, since that's not an actual town and we don't know for sure which town he was actually born in, I'm not comfortable listing anything yet. Beginning 07:57, Aug 20, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Fred Norris

Fred Norris from the Howard Stern show was born in Willimantic. I would like to add him to the list, but am unsure of what category he falls under. Antitext 05:48, 30 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Proposal: Merge this list with List of famous residents of Connecticut

I propose to merge the List of famous residents of Connecticut with this list under this name. If a merger is done, this name should be the one used because it has become standard throughout Wikipedia and that makes it easier for some readers to find.

These two lists are slightly different. At the top of this one, we're told the list is of people born in the state, while the other one is of famous people who reside in it. I don't think it matters one way or the other to readers: They want to know about famous people who are in some way closely associated with a place. It would be nice if each item would note what the connection is (birth, residence, other) but not necessary. (It would be even nicer, and ultimately necessary, for the link of the person to the place to be footnoted.) Noroton 23:49, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Support. I created famous when there was a section getting out of hand on Connecticut. Unfortunately, I didn't know that this article existed. Cmprince 00:18, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
Oppose/weak oppose. Living somewhere does not equal being from there, though your compromise could work if it clearly noted the difference. I'd actually propose simply eliminating the notable residents list entirely, since residency changes frequently among the "famous" and we're really not a phonebook or other directory. There is the additional issue of the definition of "fame" and how we could possibly narrow down or expand that list without having some concrete guidelines, which we don't. I would just pick some of the most noted from that list and include them in a small section of Connecticut (the article, that is), or add them to the articles of the towns in which they live, which is more common and makes more sense to me. Support. We could begin (as some other state lists do) with something like: This is a list of notable people who were born in or spent significant periods of their lives in the U.S. state of Connecticut. This would eliminate transients. Staib 00:13, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
