[edit] Who is a Modern artist

Most art historians believe that "Modern Art" as we currently define it began with the late work of Cezanne, which laid a foundation for the cubists, or with the early fauvists. Obviously, separating art history into distinctly different eras is an artificial construct, but it can also be useful in the study of art. Thus, I am removing the names of impressionists, post-impressionists, and other artists who predate the era of modern art as I have defined it above.--Sophitus 10:38, May 28, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Turn into category?

I think that this list is a perfect candidate for being converted into a category. There are almost no redlinks, so it's not serving as much of a placeholder for articles that need to be created. Also, in an unannotated list like this, there's no evidence of notability for any name that is redlinked. I haven't examined the history in depth, but a quick look (and common sense) shows that this article could easily be a magnet for non-notable vanity additions. --Icarus (Hi!) 19:21, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
