Talk:List of mammals in French Guiana
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Why wouldn't be human on the "List of mammals in French Guiana"?
Human is not an introduced species in French Guyana, unlike cow, cat or dog that were recently brought by European human population. It was a part of the ecosystema long time before 1492 and the "discovery of America". Isn't it interesting to add it among this list of mammals to bring thinking about considering human as a "wild species", and to remind the place of human in the ecosystema ? 80.8.237.52 21:29, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

- That is not a joke : humans are an important part of the ecosystem, even in french Guyana where traditional slash and burn agriculture has a role in the natural tropical forest ecosystem since the milleniums it exists, and may have a responsibility in the hight level of biodiversity (this activity enhance the turn-over of the ecosystem dynamics and increases the biodiversity) and it is not an exception, for example, have a look to " Baird Callicott Earth Insights - A survey of ecological ethics from the Mediterranean Basin to the Austrelian Outback, University of California Press, 1994 ".
- Human species already has a place in some mammal classification books. Why should it be exclueded from the "Wilderness" ? It is a way to exclude the human from global ecosystema, a bit the same as the first colons in North America who excluded amerindians from the first National Parks while those amerindians were responsible of the biodiversity of the ecosystems as every species it countained. Have a look to " William M. Denevan The pristine myth : the landsape of Americas in 1492', Anals of the associations of geographers, 82(3), 1992, p. 369-385.
- Then, don't you think Homo sapiens has a place in the List of mammals in Guyana ?
