I think this page should be renamed List of largest cable-stayed bridges. The bridges are not ranked by overall length, so longest is misleading. Suspension bridges are commonly called "large" by the size of the main span. This is also the way List of largest suspension bridges is named. Also, cable-stayed needs a hyphen. -- Samuel Wantman 07:35, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

Sounds good. Just leave a redirect at the old name. --Thetrick 08:10, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New bridge in Thailand

Not sure where this new bridge should be placed in the list. It is two bridge joined together with an entrace/exit at the middle. For now, it is called Mega Bridge. It will be opened in upcoming months with the new official name. [1] [2]. -- Lerdsuwa 17:27, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Puente La Amistad Costa Rica Taiwan

While the full lengths of this bridge is 780m, the cable-stayed longest span is only 260m so it's position in the list was changed to the proper position.

[edit] Add Hale Boggs Bridge (near Luling, LA)

Please add the Hale Boggs Bridge to this list.

This was the first major cable stayed bridge in the United States. Refer to other Wikipedia articles for information such as span length, date of construction, etc.

[edit] Add more info into the table?

Anyone intersted in having the tower type (H-shape, diamond shape, etc.) and cable arrrangement (fan, semi-fan, harp) added to this table? - SCgatorFan 03:53, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Definitive List of C-S bridges?

If anyone knows of a good list please include it on the page as a reference. I haven't found one that is up-to-date.

Start with the most up to date one you can find, and then search through structurea.de to find any more recent bridges. -- Samuel Wantman 07:34, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Freedom Bridge ("Most Slobode" in Serbian), built in 1981, destroyed by NATO aviation in 1999, rebuilt in 2005: - height of the towers: 60 m - length of the main span: 361 m - bridge length: 1382 m - number of cables: 48 - built: 1976-1981 - 30.000 cubic meters of concrete - 2.150 tons of concrete steel - 10.000 tons of steel - 6 lanes of trafic + 2 pedestrian - at the time WORLD RECORD in cable-stayed brigde science with cables in middle plane (more: http://sr.wikipedia.org/sr-el/Мост_слободе)

People ON THE BRIGDE during the bombing: 9; all civilians (since the bridge was never used by the army, it was a civilian bridge); all were rescued.

The bridge was rebuilt in 2 years and 22 days, with the cost of approx. 40 million euros. Academic professor Nikola Hajdin said that the brigde had no strategic role, that it was a city bridge, and that NATO destroyed it for no reason whatsoever.

Another bridge by professor Nikola Hajdin: New Railway Bridge in Beograde http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Railway_Bridge_(Belgrade) - 1928 m long - THE FIRST CABLE-STAYED RAILWAY BRIDGE IN THE WORLD, oppened 1979.

More about world-famous scientist Nikola Hajdin, professor of University of Belgrade, can be found here (and need to be translated from Serbian to English): http://sr.wikipedia.org/sr-el/Никола_Хајдин

New Railway Bridge in Beograde is among the largest cable-stayed brigdes in the world; it should be mentioned at the appropriate page. Freedom Bridge in the city of Novi Sad is the only cable-stayed brigde built-destroyed-rebult in the world. It now looks the same as it was before NATO destroyed it.

Check place 57 for Liberty Bridge, Novi Sad, New Railroad Bridge (Belgrade) has main span 254 m, thus no qualify to that list. --Jklamo 12:27, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
