[edit] Didn't he make headlines criticizing Brazil's stance on abortion?
according to this (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18569939/) he sparked something of a controversy in Mexico condemning Mexican politicians as well. It appears that, according to this (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/09/world/europe/09cnd-pope.html) Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said on an interview that while he's personally against abortion, criminalizing it would have serious repercussions before meeting the Pope, but after Benedict's statements condemning Mexican politicians were made.
