Talk:List of identity card policies by country

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I assume this article concerns national identity cards. All countries need some kind of ID cards for bank transactions etc don't they? It looks strange with a headline like "Countries with no identity cards". Shouldn't we write that it concerns national identity cards ? /BIL 07:03, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

There is no identity card whatsoever in Canada unless it's a Driver's Licence which is not a state ID. --Pashator 19:40, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

Yes, there is: Canadian citizens can obtain a voluntary "Citizenship card" (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pub/transporters/Appendix2-2.html), permanent residents receive a Permanent Resident Card (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pub/transporters/Appendix2-8.html). 84.147.147.21 12:14, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

Try this link http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizen/certificate-info.html . All the info is right there on how to obtain a citizenship card for someone born in Canada. The card costs $75CDN while a much more useful passport is $97CDN. rasblue 01:44, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] South Korean ID Cards

There are Korean national ID cards. I'm an ethnic Korean, and whenever I visit or even watch a Korean TV show, people always mention it. I don't konw much about it though, except it's called something like "Citizen's Registry Number" or something like that.--Jettd42291 15:36, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Japanese ID cards

Most photo shops in Japan state that the photos you get from them are valid for ID cards, suggesting that there are ID cards in Japan. Once, when I forgot my Japanese bank card at the bank, I had to show identification to the bank clerk in order to get my bank card back. As a foreign citizen living in Japan I have a special card given to me by my local ward office mentioning my name, address, status of residence and other things, but I don't know what kind of ID cards there are for Japanese citizens. Apart from the incident at the bank, I have only been asked for identification upon entering or leaving the country, when registering at the ward office, and when applying for re-entry permits, and on all of these occasions, I have been required to show my passport. [edit] West Africa

Living in Ghana, I can add to the list of countries without a national ID includes Ghana. However, a project to fit all citizens with a card has been undertaken.

Moreover, I know that in both Burkina Faso and Togo, you have national ID cards and you are obliged to always carry it on you. I believe the same is the case for most of the West African countries.
