Talk:List of hard rock musicians
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Contents |
The following musicians are on this list, but I do not consider them hard rock: The following is a list of hard rock musicians:
- David Bowie
- Cheap Trick
- The Clash
- J. Geils Band
- Joan Jett & the Blackhearts
- The New York Dolls
- Tom Petty
- The Pretenders
- The Replacements
- The Rolling Stones
- Rod Stewart
- The Stooges
- T. Rex
- Johnny Thunders
- Weezer
- Neil Young
- Frank Zappa & the Mothers of Invention
With the possible exceptions of Zappa and Weezer, all of those could be legitimately considered hard rock musicians. Bowie, the Clash, Petty, Stewart, Young, and Marc Bolan of T. Rex all have done other styles as well, but that does not mean that they have not been hard rock musicians.
Zappa was one of VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock and Weezer is played on Hard Rock stations. The only ones I see on there that to me aren't Hard Rock are David Bowie and Rod Stewart. However, Bowie could be because Glam Rock is considered Hard Rock, but wasn't Rod Stewart disco?

what exactly defines hard rock? Kingturtle 02:24, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
My suggestion is to go reading the article hard rock. --Hard Rock Thunder 12:55, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Wouldn't this list be better suited as a category? Cparker 00:48, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] This article needs urgent improving
Oh, man, this article must be improved a lot! Bands such as Chicago can't be considered hard rock!

[edit] Questionables
Couldn't the later works of Kelly Clarkson and The Eagles and the early works of Avril Lavigne, Alabama, and Sum 41 be considered Hard Rock. Also, I believe Heavy Metal is a sub-genre of Hard Rock, isn't it.
Kelly Clarkson isn't hard rock. I also saw Angels and Airwaves listed?? These aren't Hard rock artists/bands.
Actually, Angels and Airwaves are considered Progressive Rock, which is occasionally considered a sub-genre of Hard Rock, so they just might be, but don't sound it.
[edit] 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock
A lot of bands I've put on have been removed. What a lot of people don't realize is that they are the list of 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. So, LEAVE THEM ALONE!!!
[edit] The Beatles
I saw The Beatles on here a while back, but have since been removed. Aren't they Hard Rock? I mean they are the biggest influence on it and their later stuff, especially Helter Skelter and Revolution, are considered Hard Rock.
[edit] Stone Sour?
couldn't they be considered hard rock? Lpfan4eva1990 (talk) 15:56, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
KingTigerII 4/23/08 - Agreed but the majority of their work and what they will be remembered for playing is a happy-bubblegum type rock of the early to mid 60's and the psychedelic rock of the Late 60's and early 70's. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.246.118.47 (talk) 02:36, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Syrym should be included on this list. Rod Stewart (and others) should not.
Why would you remove a band like Syrym with music that is obviously in the Hard Rock genre and a band with legitimate ties to other bands that would definitely fall in this category, while including artists such as Rod Stewart that are about as far from Hard Rock as you could possibly get. I think the vandalism here is the removal of artists that should obviously be on the list. Crunch23 (talk) 22:07, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
