Talk:List of firearms in video games/archive
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This page is meant to compare the guns in FPS games to real life weapons.
No offense meant, but can someone explain to me what is the point of this page and whether or not I should be adding BFGs from Doom and the semi-automatic bazooka from Crusader? That one was a lot of fun. -- Kizor 23:57, 6 Aug 2004 (UTC)
I came here for the BFG. I say go for it. The article should be deleted soon anyway.
This is the stupidist article ive ever seen in wikipedia.
vfd this ish
- Surprisingly i find this guy right. We should put these firearms on there original article. What is the point if this page? IThink4u 21:20, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
I found the point of this page to provide a quick and easy reference for weapons I have used in various videogames. This service is very helpful as it transfers the copyright-adjusted game weapon names to their real equivalent. Unfortunaely, many of the weapon links are dead. I would be very grateful if someone could resolve that. --Commander Keane 10:54, 28 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I request that this article be cleaned up, and maybe add in additional games (Soldier of Fortune, for example), and maybe the Urban Terror section moved to a section for weapons in FPS mods, or removed entirely. Also, I don't see the need for some of the information next to certain weapons, since the article it links to would definitely have the information handy. --TonicBH 22:05, 27 September 2005 (UTC)
This isn't an article, it's a list, and it seems perfectly valid to me: it contains the list the title indicates it will, but, as TonicBH and others have suggested, it does need an overhaul. Surely links to other fictional weapons would be valid, as the title does not specify the entries need to be real weapons...

Overhaul?
I had noticed during the AFD vote for this, that some had suggested that the list should be changed where the weapon is mentioned, and give games that have the weapon present. For example:
- Beretta 92F/FS
- This handgun is the main handgun for the United States Military.
- Appearances: This weapon is the main weapon for protagonist Max Payne in his self-titled series. All members of the United States Marine Corps have this as a sidearm in Battlefield 2. It has also appeared up in game modifications such as Action Half-Life and The Specialists.
- This handgun is the main handgun for the United States Military.
- Ruger MP9
- This submachine gun is a variant of the Uzi that uses a closed bolt.
- Appearances: This submachine gun appears in 007: Nightfire.
- This submachine gun is a variant of the Uzi that uses a closed bolt.
Some people had thought the current list is a listcruft, and could eventually get way too big. However, doing it as above might need to be renamed as List of real-life firearms in video games or similar, to broaden the list a bit Maybe a table could work as well. --TonicBH 15:36, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
I think this article, as is, is stupid. As is, you cannot find the specific weapons unless you know what game your playing. I would rather have this article sectionalize with the weapon name instead of the Video Game Name. --293.xx.xxx.xx 00:16, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

- I concur. Each individual video game has its own list of firearms, correct? This article should be a list of firearms and what video game they appear in. That only makes sense. How about this. Most games go by a shorthand name, correct? Day of Defeat, Source, for instance, is DOD:S. Why not list the firearm and then simply list what games it appears in and have a legend somewhere listing the individual games and their shorthand descriptor?--Asams10 08:34, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

- I put up a rewrite on the top of the page. I must agree at this point, it's gonna become way too long a list (and even now, it's too long). Quite sad, I was at one point adding information and cleaning this page up. -TonicBH 20:21, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
- I agree, It would be a much better idea to have a comprehensive list of real-world firearms - Separated by type (I.E. Handguns, Rifles, etc), then have a listing afterwards. You don't need it separated by game because the game tells you what you're holding. So in the current iteration the page is simply redundant. However, for those wanting to make a comparison between the games, it would be much more handy and useful to have the gun listed, so you can then find other games that feature the same gun type. Just so anyone notices, I made a test at My "personal" sandbox which uses the prettytable template. I wanna hear what people's comments are, and see if we should go through with it.
Now, just notice that all the weapons would be seperated into different sections (like a section for all handguns, submachine guns, etc), and the three examples show of one with many occurences, one where there's an "x weapon in popular culture" article, and the last one, which would be the default. I'd love to hear any comments because that's what I'd like to go with.-TonicBH 00:02, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

- I like it, it seems to be quite a lot more useful in that particular style. I would take out "Notable Ones Include" and just leave it as an editable list, since "notable" is a POV thing. GameJunkieJim 19:07, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
