[edit] Cleanup/Re-Write?
I added the template:original_research tag to this page in the hopes that someone might take an interest in fixing the introductory section. At the very least it needs to site sources, and probably ought to be reduced significantly or eliminated. CarbonX 16:12, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
- I'm going to rewrite the intro. It's tone is all wrong, it's too long and it doesn't cite any sources. Also, whatever it was originally intended to be, it's morphed into a list of pretty much any movie edited after it's initial theatrical release. CarbonX (talk) 14:39, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Why Kubrick, but not Lucas?
This list is really random; if Lucas's "Star Wars" movies don't qualify, why do Kubrick's re-cuts? [Other than 'Eyes Wide Shut'] At least some of these re-cuts were definitely by the director, not the studio; in other cases, the director did the cuts but was forced to by the studio (like 'Brazil'). But the studio did not really re-cut the film. (Maybe 'Brazil' isn't the best example, but the "Love Conquers All" cut didn't really get any serious release.) 'The Exorcist' was not forced by the studio. If this page is worth keeping, it should just be films which are re-cut and explain the story. ThatGuamGuy 03:05, 20 March 2007 (UTC)sean
- I have to agree. The whole set-up for this article seems against the spirit of things, starting with a ponderous lecture on the auteur theory, and ending with a statement that tells the world what this article will not be. — WiseKwai 03:56, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
- Me three. Even if you ignore the opening lecture paragraph, this is the sort of thing that could hardly be authoritative. Perhaps it's a list of notable films that are believed to have been edited at the behest of the studio. Not sure this article is meaningful. At best it seems that most of this info simply belongs on the pages of the movie being discussed. CarbonX 08:25, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
- Return of the Jedi should definitely be in the list since the director is dead and could therefore not agree to all the changes Lucas did. Davhorn 20:18, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Close Encounters
Steven Spielberg participated in the creation of both the 1980 "Special Edition" and 1998 "Collector's Edition"/"director's cut" of Close Encounters of the Third Kind; neither of these versions belongs on a page listing studio-mandated re-cuts. (The syndication and network versions fit this page's scope, however.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.218.28.10 (talk) 02:40, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
