There is a classic old story called "Lonely planet", featuring sentient planet called Alix-Aix or similar, which is harmed by human colonists. I believe this is chronologically first sentient planet in sci-fi, and also spun the name of "Lonely Planet" travel guidebooks.

There's a sentient planet in David Zindell's book "Neverness". I don't recall any details about it, and I'm not about to get a copy of the horrid thing again just to look it up.
