[edit] Why was mention of tornado force-scale recalibration omitted?

I don't like the way that this list is constantly scrubbed. It needs an updated graph, perhaps one from Pascal Peduzzi (2004) "Is climate change increasing the frequency of hazardous events?" Environment Times (UNEP/GRID-Arendal).

"The scientists, who argue that global warming accounts for the ferocity and frequency of the hurricanes that battered the Caribbean in 2004, blame one factor in particular: the unexpectedly warm water that has been building up in the mid-Atlantic and Caribbean Oceans over the past years. Hurricanes need specific conditions to form. Two of them are warm water and high water-vapour levels...." Solveig Olafsdottir (2004) "Is climate change to blame for a deadly hurricane season in the Caribbean?" Environment Times (UNEP/GRID-Arendal).

Or maybe one of these or these. The United Nations Environment Programme / GRID-Arendal copyright policy is: "Text and graphics may be reproduced in whole or in part and in any form for educational or non-profit purposes, provided that credit is given to the source."[1] James S. 17:05, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] "events"

Is, for example, the entire year of 2006 being warmest on record an "event"? James S. 05:17, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

That's how it was originally written. Apparently it was that editor's interpretation. You are free to change it. Thegreatdr 12:34, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] cleanup

per the tag that's been in place a couple of months, it's time for all the unsourced stuff to be pulled from this article. if you want your favorite extreme weather event to stay, please add a citation soon. Anastrophe 22:12, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

another 'daily' reminder. the bulk of this article is unsourced. a casual reader would never have the first clue how many of these entries might have been created from the imagination of random vandals - there are (by rough count) 137 cited weather events in the list; yet there are only 25 citations on the article. this is completely unacceptable for an encyclopedic list.
