[edit] Proposal to merge with "List of environment-theme lists of topics: M"
The proposal to merge the 16 shorter segments of list of environment-theme lists of topics with segment pages of list of environment topics seems to be based on a misunderstanding of the two sets of pages. In the case of the first-mentioned set of pages, the entries listed on them are (with very few exceptions) lists whose names (therefore) actually begin with the letter ell. Therefore, if any merging is to take place, it should be with list of environment topics:L. In the case of list of meteorology topics (at the present time on one page), I integrated topics which are also lists onto the page, by putting them under the section heading Lis.
One might ask why I integrated those but separated list topics from the other environment topics. When I began editing "list of environment pages", it was all on one page, with a short section of list topics at the bottom of the page, under the heading "Lists". I decided to continue in the way that someone else had started, and now, with many more entries having been added to the list topics, it seems especially practical to keep them separate. After I had spent some months in adding many topics to "list of environment topics" (on one page), it was recommended that the page be split into smaller pages, a task which someone else began and I finished. Then, the list topics were not merely in a separate section but on a separate page.
If one purpose of the mergence is to juxtapose topics such as "artificial island" and "list of artificial islands", it should be noted that I have put a link to "list of artificial islands" after the entry "artificial island" on the page list of environment topics:A. I have endeavored to do likewise with as many other such topics as possible. Of course, I also listed the list topics again on the page "list of environment-theme lists of topics", but there is a benefit in having them all together on one page. Readers with a general interest in the environment can easily discover many lists whose existence was unknown to them. Also, if items are merged, they will likely have to be separated in the future because of excessively long pages. -- Wavelength 21:11, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
