Talk:List of employee-owned companies

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I believe Fender (guitars and amplifiers) and Harley Davidson are also employee owned, but I'm putting this here on the talk page since I don't have independent confirmation.

Sorry, Harley Davidson is publicly traded (NYSE: HOG). The article for Fender says that Fender was bought from CBS by its own employees, but that might have been a management buyout (a well-financed subset of employees rather than all employees as a group, for instance) as Hoover.com lists Fender as being controlled by a management group headed by chairman William Schultz.

Perhaps this raises a good point -- should this list be limited to certain kinds of employee ownership? Obviously employees can buy their own publicly-traded stock, and key personnel often receive stock grants and options... the National Center for Employee Ownership uses the phrase, "substantial or principal ownership" which may be difficult to verify for closely held private companies.
