Talk:List of development hell projects
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] Super Mario 128
Someone should put this up. I have no facts. I just know that this was announced many times and that Nintendo has put together many many different attempts at such a game. Including one for the 64 DD which itself could be an item.
[edit] Duke Nukem Forever
Duke Nukem Forever does not belong on this list. As far as I understand "development" refers to the process of turning a source idea into a script which is used to create a film or a television show. Software development is an unrelated concept.
- That makes the whole article misleading then though, considering all the software bits that are on it meanwhile, and the way development hell is referred from some software articles. Maybe this decision should be reconsidered? Haslo (talk) 09:10, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Battlestar Galactica
I think maybe the remake of BSG belongs on this list on the grounds that the creators of the original have been trying to revive the series for years before the "re-imagining" mini and followup series was made.
- I think not. The success of the new series have obsoleted the old one. I would think any plans for the old series are permanently shelved by now. Also keep in mind a project must have become substantial to be considered in dev hell, and not just being a dream in the minds of a few individuals.213.112.249.111 13:37, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Windows Vista
The projects was delayed more of the time estimated, also the development team must cut some promised features (the new file system for example). The results was acceptable but not near of the initial announce.
- Does anyone know what happened to Transitional NTFS? I'm sure I read about it on the features of Vista page a while back. If it's gone for good I'll be upset, it sounded great. Perhaps I'm just imagining things tho. RustyBadger 01:07, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] I'm not sure, but...
Super Mario 128? Twilight Realm 06:13, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
If software is to be included, the most obvious candidate apart from Duke Nukem Forever would have to be Elite IV. On the other hand, I suppose we need to know that the project IS actually 'in development', at least in some way. Maybe Elite IV should stay under 'vaporware'. - Adaru 20:39, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Mechwarrior?
I really don't think the failure to get funding is considered "development hell." There are thousands of scripts or franchises not getting developed due to lack of funding. Development hell conotes actual development - ie money being spent - but with no productive result. I'm removing it unless someone can give a good reason it should remain. --24.4.106.219 05:16, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Neutron
Has anybody seen any independent verification for this section? I found a reference to Jarman & Bowie being associated with a project called "Neutron", but not to its subject matter. And since Jarman is dead, it's not still in DH unless someone else is working on it -- which they may be, but that info would need to be in the article to justify keeping this section. [edit] Role-playing games
I feel that this category has been left out, so I created it.
And because it would look stupid to have an empty category, I added one (Dragon Fist: please help out adding references, fixing links and tidying up the text if you like!)
I don't know how to add the reference to the quoted text, so I'll add it here: http://www.greenronin.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6807&start=43 213.112.249.111 09:40, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
Maybe Fallout 3 should aslo be added to the RPG-list?
- Not if you're talking about a computer game. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Role-playing_game says "This article is about games in which one plays the role of a character. For their electronic counterparts, see Computer role-playing game and Console role-playing game." Please file Fallout 3 under "video games" (at least, that's what I'd do choosing between the current existing categories). 85.227.226.235 (talk) 13:40, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] I'm Deleting the Cowboy Bebop Game.
The game was release in Japan of August 2005, I'm not sure why it wasn't released in the US. Bebopblue 07:55, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fallout 3 has been "in the works" and still is.
Anybody knows in detail whether or not Fallout 3 is still in serious development (not to mention slated release date)? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 220.255.107.49 (talk) 11:24, 22 January 2007 (UTC).
[edit] Combat Flight Simulator 4
Somebody needs to totally redo the CFS4 paragraph. I corrected spelling, but it needs a rewording. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.81.80.163 (talk) 03:14, 12 February 2007 (UTC).
I was the one who found it and alreade made an article that needs help. So I am going to help.Sorry for misspelling.Pendo 4 12:55, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
I know this has now, finally, been released but it took six years and half of the features we're axed, someone who knows should write a paragraph, or someone with time could condense the Development delay section. RustyBadger 01:00, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Battlecruiser 3000AD
A developer's hell indeed, I'm not sure if it qualifies as development hell. The production didn't stuck or something, just was made for a very long time by one person. Does it count? XamiXiarus 16:50, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] The Phantom
Would Infinium Labs' / Phantom Entertainment's game console, The Phantom, be more considered in development hell, or just vaporware? There's been quite a bit of controversy surrounding it. Should it be added?
[edit] Spore's date
Whoever wrote that it will be coming out in 2009 is wrong. It's coming out in the Fiscal Year of 2009, which starts April 2008.
Someone fix it. Better yet, I'll fix it.
[edit] Too Human
seems like a good game to put up there to me. First developed for PS1, then gamecube, then 360, and now they've just had to start building a new engine from scratch. Chutup1 09:07, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
Too Human is a really good example, it's been on development for almost 10 years, I am going to shout hallelujah the day it's out, if ever. --ren (talk) 07:36, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Modding/Addon Hell
I'd quite like to see a section on Mods/Addons that go into development hell. Its quite a feature of modding and something I have has significant value from an encyclopedic standpoint, as it gives some insight into the unique nature and problems associated with the modding community and culture that aren't faced by commercial releases. I am not sure if this would sit better as its own page, or as part of this (rather large) page, keen to hear others thoughts. I'd be happy to put together some information on it that I have found from the web, exploring the concept of development hell for addons and mods. Icemotoboy 23:10, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Metroid Dread
Metroid Dread is not in developement hell, IT NEVER EXISTED! Get that straight people, I suggest removing it. Claycrow 12:50, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Blizzard Entertainment
First things first- I'm a ~huge~ fan of Blizzard's and I have to agree with the statement that "when the product is finally delivered it is generally of high quality." However, saying "most are of" that opinion without providing a citation is (although correct, in my opinion) technically a weasel statement. I (and other Blizzard fans) would be grateful if this could be corroborated.
