Talk:List of current AFL team squads

[edit] Flags
I think they look awful. Collingwood and Sydney's lists look so messy with flags for everyone. This isn't soccer. We don't have a world cup. We don't have an active international player trade system. Peter Bell, Adam Campbell or Kris Massie are never going to play for South Korea, New Zealand or Sweden. Why not put a Brownlow logo next to Brownlow winners... it's just as relevant to the team list as a flag of where they were born. The-Pope 10:02, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, this is where you are wrong. We do have an Australian Football International Cup, which will include a growing list of over 15 nations in 2008, unlike the Rugby League World Cup the current eligibilty rules prevent AFL players from participating (which is good, because I'd rather not see players selected based on their grandparent's heritage), but this may not always be the case (for example, it was widely rumoured in PNG that Mal Michael would represent the country in 2008 before he renewed his career with Essendon). And from 2006, there is an international trade system - the International Rookie draft. It may not be active as such, but it is not too far away from seeing South Africans and Papua New Guineans coming through the system. There are now many Irish players in the AFL system. We have just as much right to these flags as the rugby league clubs have to them, as there is a comparable number of overseas players in both sports. Perhaps you could take your issue up with the league boys. --Rulesfan 05:48, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
