Talk:List of comedy horror films
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There are quite a few movies on this list that are not horror comedies, I would consider revising
Also, now that I think of it, there should be seperat sections for "black comedies" and "spoofs"
- I've noticed some of the films on here that are black comedies or spoofs but not necesarily comedy/horror are put here only because there was no comedy-horror films being released that year. We don't need films of this genre for every single year. Comedy/horror hybrids weren't being produced that often for quite a while. (68.153.175.5 18:25, 17 July 2007 (UTC))
[edit] I suggest a discussion
I suggest a discussion for films that people believe are not horror comedies or should be considered added to the list of horror comedies (AKA thrillomedies as Arachnophobia's marketing called them). I almost added the 1986 film Troll to the list, because I remember laughing a lot during it, but I don't know if it is a comedy.Antmusic 20:12, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, but what are the criteria? I remember watching the laughable Carnosaur, and not laughing while wondering why anyone would laugh at this, even if they were supposed to be laughing at its crapiness. Comedy horror - who cares? Just make it horror. The laughs will follow.--Shtove 01:44, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- Maybe the criteria would be that we only put in the self proclaimed Horror Comedies.... but even then something could be marketed as a horror comedy that is no funny at all (Terror Toons, in my opinion, fits this bill). Yes, it is true that everyone has their opinions on movies (like I HATE Terror Toons, and it is not funny at all, in my opinion... funny concept, unfunny movie with horrible execution... Read the comments on IMDB to see other's opinions on this film). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Antmusic (talk • contribs) 21:25, 7 December 2006 (UTC).
[edit] PLEASE DISCUSS before removing a film.
Someone just removed "Evil Dead" from the list stating that it was not a comedy (their opinion). This is something that should be discussed before action is taken. If anyone believes that Evil Dead is a comedy, then I guess it should be added to the list (I agree that Evil Dead part II and Army of Darkness are funny... but i have not seen Evil Dead part 1 for a long time to be able to give an accurate opinion).Antmusic 18:57, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

- Now Cherry Falls has been removed by someone. I haven't seen it, so I have no opinion on if it is a comedy or not. Again, PLEASE discuss before you remove. Antmusic 22:40, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

- I'd have to agree with you. Discuss before removing a film from the list. However, very few would contend that Evil Dead was a comedy, though there's little to no argument that both of its sequels were. "Grindhouse" was just removed from the list, when indeed it was a horror comedy, as it lampooned an entire genre and was too ridiculous to be taken seriously. The film acknowledges this itself. Please, everyone, do not remove Grindhouse from the list.User:Daytonafathead 15:54, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- I agree that Grindhouse was funny with its "lost reels" and fake trailors. It fits into mulitple categories, including "comedy horror". Antmusic 16:16, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

- I don't think that it was "too ridiculous to be taken seriously." It's a tribute to the exploitation films that the filmmakers involve love. While I'm sure that no one involved takes the films they are paying tribute to seriously, and may find a few examples of the genre laughably bad, they do love much of these films for being pure popcorn entertainment. With Grindhouse, the idea was to pay tribute to these films, not to make fun of them. I don't think that Grindhouse is a comedy horror film. The lost reels are definitely intended to be funny - but is that enough for it to qualify for this list? And I didn't find the trailers funny, either. They made me want to see the non-existent films being advertised. Let's say a comedic film has one scene that viewers describe as being "scary" - does that make it a comedy horror film? No, it's still a comedy. Thus, using a "reel missing" title card as a brief source of humor does not make Grindhouse a comedy. King Kong has many humorous scenes, but it is not a comedy. - It was an homage and a tribute to exploitation films, yes, but it's not as if you weren't meant to laugh at it. You were. The fake trailers were meant to be laughed at, as were the movies, because they were so very much like the campy, exploitative films they were paying tribute to. To say that Grindhouse was not a comedy is almost idiotic and I'm sure more people would agree with me than disagree. After all, the critics seem to agree[1] While we're at it, I'd say the "Scary Movie" film series should NOT go on this list, as it was a comedy poking fun at horror movies, and not a comedy and a horror film in one, like most of the other films on the list. - I think it's ridiculous to say that "most people agree that"...where's the proof? I've seen one printed reviewer refer to it as a comedy. You can't go by online critics and people posting on IMDb, as that borders on orginal research. If Grindhouse is listed here for content that some perceive as humorous, should we also add films like Blacula, I Drink Your Blood, etc., I.E., original grindhouse films which some perceive as humorous? You could claim that Blacula was intended to be a comedy, but what would be the proof? I'm not denying that some people find these films funny (I'm including Grindhouse in this equation), but where does it say that we get to interpret genres based on the fact that some people may find a film of a certain genre? I agree with you, though, about the Scary Movie series, not to mention other horror spoofs like Student Bodies. (Ibaranoff24 20:50, 11 July 2007 (UTC))

- You must have been watching a different movie than I was. Please, I implore you to watch Grindhouse again and tell me it's not a healthy mix of horror and comedy. Just because it was an homage does not mean it cannot fall into the category of horror comedy. This is a different case than the one you claimed I'd be making by keeping Grindhouse on the list, which is that bad exploitation films should be added as well by my logic. These films were never intended to be accepted as a comedy, whereas Grindhouse is a film by two distinguished directors who obviously know quality film making, paying homage to the cheesy unintended humor a movie viewer would find in old exploitation films. Grindhouse was a purposefully ridiculous film with plenty of cheesy one-liners, laughable concepts, and ludicrous fake trailers. It is the perfect balance of inane violent horror and preposterous black comedy. Please, realize this movie could be viewed as a comedy horror, and most definitely fits in this category more so then those previously mentioned horror movie spoofs than I'm glad we found common ground in believing they should be removed from the list (however, the list is vague enough that I believe more people should voice there opinions on whether or not those aforementioned spoofs should be removed or not before taking any action in doing so, as with removing Grindhouse.) - I can't find any evidence supporting the claim that either Grindhouse or Snakes on a Plane were meant to be comedies. I'm removing them. (68.153.175.5 21:16, 18 July 2007 (UTC))
