[edit] Why does this list include....?
- Mel Blanc, a voice actor
- Ernest Borgnine
- Sid Caesar, comedian
- Richard Dawson (Hogan's Heroes and Family Feud? What, he's British?)
- Morgan Freeman
- Judd Hirsch
- Cloris Leachman (compare Lassie to Mary Tyler Moore; come on!)
- Christopher Lloyd (unmistakable voice, but always looks different in every film he's been in)
- Agnes Moorehead (yes, she was Endora, but also Citizen Kane's mother)
- Leonard Nimoy (name another role besides Mr. Spock)
- Roxie Roker (anything else besides The Jeffersons?)
- Isabel Sanford (ditto)
- Lynne Thigpen
- Vivian Vance (okay, she's Lucy's friend)
- Burt Ward (what else besides Robin?)

[edit] More than a list of names?
It wouldn't hurt to make a description of a best known role, or the type of character played. Jack Albertson (Willie Wonka & the Chocalate Factory, Chico and the Man) is the gruff old man with a soft heart, for instance. Maybe then, people would see that some of these aren't really character actors. Mandsford 18:38, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Inclusion Question
Why are there people on this list without Wikipedia pages? I would imagine whomever added these names would at least list a movie credit on the actors' main page.
- Who's to say that there won't be a Wikipedia page next week? Mandsford 18:38, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Possible Resource
This list would benefit with a link to Hey, It's That Guy!. But I don't know how wikipedia feels about links on lists, and I'm too lazy at this moment to find out.
[edit] Labeling Idea
I think a great addition to this page would be to include in parenthesis following the name the type of "character" played by each person. Or, divide this list by what kind of character these people play (i.e., "Best Friend" or "Ethnic Stereotype"). ~takethemud 1853 EST, 26.12.05
[edit] Jack Black
Given that he's had lead roles in two films in the last 12 months, is he really a 'character actor' as defined here? Morwen - Talk 21:53, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Gene Wilder?
Why would someone consider Gene Wilder a character actor? I can name quite a few leading roles even from his early career, so what exactly makes him a character actor?
[edit] Craig T. Nelson?
I wouldn't call Craig T. Nelson a character actor, as he was the leading role in the TV series Coach, as well as other television shows Call to Glory and The District. Unless one is referencing him in movie roles, where he typically plays in more of a supporting role. —Preceding unsigned comment added by PeteU (talk • contribs) 20:54, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- I've removed him. He's more of a leading man. --Sturm 22:10, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
