[edit] Gene Lebell & inclusion criteria
I assume the idea of this page is to highlight Judoka who are famous for other things/ in other fields. I would therefore question the inclusion of people like Gene LeBell who is, after all, probably more famous for being a Judoka who does stunt work. If he is included, then why not Chuck Norris? Or Brian jacks (winner of BBC TV "Superstars" competition? I like the page, by the way. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.13.39.98 (talk) 18:37, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for your comment. The criteria is not however, that the person be "more famous" for something other than judo, but rather that the person be sufficiently notable in some field other than judo, and also be a judoka. I'm glad you like the page - it's nice to be able to sneak a bit of "trivia" into Wikipedia sometimes! --David Broadfoot (talk) 00:46, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe also consider Bill "Superfoot" Wallace, the kick-boxer, who actually crocked his left leg so badly in a Judo bout that he could only kick with his left leg, hence his trade-mark technique. (83.13.39.98 (talk) 14:05, 15 March 2008 (UTC))
[edit] Angela Merkel
Found this page by working on the german Article for Judo. Good job so far. Angela Merkel as a black belt judoka was new for me and the footnote doesn´t tell anything about that. It only says, that Merkel´s political style is like fighting Judo - as far as I understand. Best wishes --87.187.243.199 (talk) 06:59, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
- Please check again... in the third sentence of the article, it says "Whereas Schröder was a prima donna, Merkel is a black belt in judo." Regards. David from Downunder (talk) 23:44, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

- Don´t you think thats metaphoric? Schröder wasn´t a primadona in real. Maybe his character is like that. And so Merkel´s style is the style of a black belt (like Handelsblatt wrote below). "Whereas Schröder was ...., Merkel is ..... ." Also in German public Putin as a judoka is well known, Merkel isn´t. Anyway, it doesn´t matter, if Merkel is realy a black belt or not, I think, the footnote is not clear enough. Best--87.187.246.220 (talk) 06:18, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

- Maybe it is metaphoric. She had been mentioned in judo circles (prior to her name being added to this list) as being a judoka, but I have removed her entry following your suggestion. Archived here:

- Angela Merkel (Chancellor of Germany, 2005—): Merkel has a black belt in judo.[1]
