Talk:List of banned writers

[edit] list too vague?
- Per the related discussion about deleting the Category:Banned writers (CFD 2007/1/7 & related CFD banned books 2006/9/24), this list seems likely to be very very long if it were ever to approach completeness. I would suggest some more specific criteria, such as (a) "This list includes writers most frequently banned by governments according to the following organizations and publications that watch for state-based censorship: American Library Association, Index on Censorship, etc." Then we could also have more specific lists like List of writers banned in their homelands (suggested at CFD), List of most commonly banned works, List of famous legal cases on book-banning. --lquilter 04:57, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Unnecessary
It seems to me that this list is unnecessary. First of all, as the above user points out, it has a vague premise. The article points out that an author's inclusion on the list does not mean they are currently banned. The article should, at the very least, be separated (into two sections or two articles) into lists of authors who have been banned in the past and authors who are currently banned. In addition, the list is poorly organized. I don't care if the iPod made it normal, lists that organize people alphabetically by their first name are unnatural. Finally, Wikipedia already has a List of banned books, logic dictates that all these authors are mentioned in that list as well. If I knew more about this newfangled Wiki-technology or cared enough to learn, I would nominate this article for deletion. Notahippie76 (talk) 02:51, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
