Talk:List of alternative country musicians

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

My question in regard to this page is whether it is going to be allowed for the band listings to run rampant? Clearly there is no real definition to what alt country is, so anyone can put anything on here. Therefore, we have groups like Big & Rich, who are clearly doing something very mainstream, even if it is a little different than some of the pop country.

My other concern is simply the fact that close to half of these links don't go to anything. These either need to be fixed, unlinked, or deleted. I don't really want to start deleting, as this list is a means of keeping people from incessantly trying to add their own band into the alt country article as the next big thing, so I would recommend these need to be either fixed, if the band has a page, or unlinked. I just wrote the entries to two three four of the bands on this list. There are a lot more here that clearly deserve articles and don't have them yet. Chubbles 01:08, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Influencers

There is a huge difference between being an artist of a genre and being influenced by that genre. For example, on this list is Credence Clearwater Revival who, while being influenced by Buck Owens are not alt.contry in and of themselves. I'll leave the argument about the Bakersfield Sound and its relationship to alt.country to others. RhodyJim 15:46, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
