[edit] Deck Strategies
Does anyone mind me adding strategies to respective duelists in the list? To some it might sound biased and to others great but I would like opinions on this before I start adding other strategies. See "Dinosaur" Ryuzaki. Thanks! Sephiroth BCR 15:12 31 December 2005
[edit] Accuracy
Why is the information in the entire Yu-Gi-Oh section such a horrificly innacurate mixture of original Japanese, English edited dubbing, and fandom rumor?
What fandom rumor?
And you must explain everything to us first, and we'll explain it back. Some of what you think is "Japanese" is really fanon or not backed up in any way (There's no way to prove "Malik", for instance) WhisperToMe 03:03, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
Based on this person's edits, I assume the "fandom rumor" is the name Atem. I'm not even going to go into it now, as I've been in this arguement before, but someone on Janime's forum actually wrote an essay about how the hieroglyphs stating "Atemu" are extremely unreliable and shouldn't be taken into consideration when translating his name. Also, it's been confirmed that the English dubbed anime name is "Atem". The names here have to go according to Wikipedia's rules about officiality. The English manga trumps the English anime, which is why some Japanese names are used and some aren't. That also explains why most fan names aren't used. Hell, personally, I prefer the name Malik much, much, MUCH more to Marik. But that's the way things are around here. Geg 03:07, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
So you prefer to use the dub information to the original Japanese?
- That's not our decision to make. Like I said, personally, of course I prefer the original Japanese names, even though some names like Malik can't be confirmed 100%. But there are rules about naming characters here that have to be abided by. Geg 03:12, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
I was unaware that Wikipedia worked in such a manner. Were you aware that some colleges print out pages here for their classes and try to trust that you are being accurate to the original material as possible?
You don't get it. Informationwise we have BOTH names (e.g. Maximillion Pegasus, known as Pegasus J. Crawford in the Japanese versions) and (Katsuya Jonouchi, known as Joey Wheeler in the English anime). THATS information.
We choose naming based on Wikipedia rules. Naming is NOT information, and it IS accurate to use dub/English naming, even if it's not whats used in Japan. WhisperToMe 03:16, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
No, you don't get it. A lot of people look to this page trusting that you have accuracy in all the information you store, including names. I apologize for changing the names without realizing that you took the English dub's information above the original Japanese. I suppose it was my mistake for assuming that someone had made a mistake spelling Atemu without the U, or that a fan had changed them, and for making minor name changes to others. I suppose the fact that the cartouche, which is spelled in Egyptian, has A-T-E-M-U written, or the fact that historical accuracy is more or less irrelevant in Takahashi's story, won't do much good to mention. I've read articles on Janime too, and I read the original manga.
Quit thinking that using dub naming is not being "accurate". Shueisha gave the manga license to VIZ. VIZ paid Shueisha money for the license. How official can you get? Geg mentioned that essay already, so why use it as a contention? Also, it can be argued that the "ATEMU" thing is Engrish. Also, Janime himself used "fan naming" (Isis and Malik have not been proven.) And, this is an English encyclopedia, is it not? WhisperToMe 03:28, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
You use Japanese names for some and English names for others. I use the comment of "dub" to denote the English version, but if it offends you I will simply call it the English version. The fact that you used Japanese versions of names for some and English versions for others led me to believe that there had been mistakes made. This obviously was a mistake on my part and I have ceased doing any further editing. Engrish or not, it's still how Kazuki Takahashi wrote it. I think it should at least be mentioned how it's spelled on the cartouche at least once. This is a rather hot topic, whether that offends you or not.
The English manga uses both English anime and Japanese names. WhisperToMe 03:41, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
The English manga also has errors in it, has altered images, and has changed names purposefully.
The errors aren't major.
There are literally two altered images (not counting SFX and word bubble replacement).
And of course names are "changed purposefully"! WhisperToMe 03:46, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
I can see that you think I'm an ignorant fan that you feel is inferior to you. Or at least the tone you have suggests that. I apologize for altering your pages. I stopped when you asked me to stop and explained my view. You have explained yours and now I understand that Wikipedia is not a place for as accurate of information that I hoped it would be despite the rumors going around.
I just ask that you mention that the cartouche spells it "A-T-E-M-U". That is all.
Done. See Yugi_Mutou. Also, we take great pains to note that the Shadow Realm is 4Kids-only. Also see Yu-Gi-Oh!_(second_series_anime) for lists of changes made to the English anime. WhisperToMe 03:54, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
Thank you.
Check the Yugi Mutou talk page for more info on the Atem/Atemu thing. Also, while historical accuracy isn't that relevant, naming accuracy is. All the names during the Pharoah's Memory storyline are more or less Egyptian or Middle Eastern. Geg 23:16, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Another random character needs to be added!
I've noticed that the character 'Fuguta,' who's name is stated once by Mokuba in the 'Doom' arc of the second series anime, isn't mentioned here! ( And because I love him, I find this to be an injustice! ...Er, yeah. ] He's Seto's pilot, and also ran did some of the 'behind the scenes' work for the KC Grand Prix, - like background checks, registrations, and the like. ...And he's the red-brown haired guy, with the beard, and the 'gold/yellow' rimed sunglasses. He was inaccurately addressed as 'Roland' by Mokuba in the dub episode 'Let the Finals Begin!' [ I believe it was episode 80, but I'm not entirely sure. ] Isono then gains the name, and Fuguta is... ignored, and apparently not important enough for a dub name, ( or a consistent voice actor! Gah! ) even though he's really loyal to Seto, [ Or perhaps just enjoys his job, and is well payed for flying random crafts around. Heh. ] and is the one who speaks up to pledge his allegiance to Seto when he loses KaibaCorp mid-way though 'Doom.' ( I positively weep at Fuguta's lack of acknowledgment! Far too many people address him as 'Suit#2' and I feel he needs a name that people can actually adress him by~! ...Yeah. ) ...And because Mokuba cannot prounouce names well, the name 'Fuguta' was translated by a dear friend of mine from his settei sheet, which can be found at www.pegsanct.rubberslug.com/ if you guys want to take a look at it. ^^;
...And I'd like to thank whoever added to Croquet and Kemo's information things, they made my day when I read them. [ Anime employees need love too..! ]
[edit] Akhenaden Split
I mostly propose this split due to A: his important role in the Millennium World, and B: there is enough information about him on this page alone to warrant a seperate article, and I'm sure this information could easily be expanded. Drake
- I agree with this, and I also propose splitting "Bakura, King of Thieves" because that too is quite a large section and it seems this article is supposed to feature characters who have slightly lesser roles in both the anime and manga. Ggctuk 10:17, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
i belive we need to combin the info on both Zorc's with Dark Bakura as Dark Bakura and Zorc are the same person
That's debatable...I have all volumes of "Yu-gi-oh!: Millenium Worlds" and it seems to indicate that Dark Bakura is the soul of Theif King Bakura who has become one with Zorc's due to Zorc sealing part of his own into the ring (It does outright say that Akhenadin's soul is one with Zorc's due as well.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.188.25.139 (talk) 01:03, August 26, 2007 (UTC)
[edit] New Articles
In order to reduce the size of the page and better accommodate the informatio, I suggest the creation of a page named The Six Priests (Yu-Gi-Oh!), and include the following summary.
- Role in the court
- Members
- Pharaoh Atem
- Akhenadin
- Priest Seto
- Mahad
- Isis
- Kalim
- Shada
- Other Priests
- Aknamkanon
- Mana (as Mahad's successor)
- Shimon
- Hassan (and his role as protector of Pharaohs)
As well, there's a way to merge some profiles here with some character profiles for a page like List of Minor Duelists in Yu-Gi-Oh!. For such a page, we could include:
- Esper Roda
- Mako Tsunami
- Panik
- Paradox Brothers
- Step Johnny
- Both Schroeder Brothers (Zigfried and Leon)
- Rebecca Hawkins
- Bonz —Preceding unsigned comment added by The Clawed One (talk • contribs) 05:24, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
As well, we may be able to merge Insector Haga, Keith Howard, Dinosaur Ryuzaki, and Mai Kujaku into this list. But as the anime features them much more prominently than the manga, we should discuss this well first.
Any comments at all? This would severely cut down the unsourced pages and the long Lists we already have. The Clawed One (talk) 03:23, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
I would not mind a large-scale consolidation - I am fine with it :) - As for Haga, Mai, Keith, and Ryuzaki, *maybe* keep them separate for now. WhisperToMe 05:33, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- I'm against it. I'm not against the idea, but it's hardcore AfD bait and I'd rather leave well enough alone right now. :\ JuJube 07:24, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- Well, the Minor Duelists article has been created. If an AfD comes, we do have the defense that the page was too large and splits were needed. The Clawed One 15:09, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Mako Tsunami
"Mako Tsunami" redirects to this page but there isn't any information on him here. Could someone add a section on him? Thanks, --Deepraine (talk) 17:09, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Misredirected. Ryota Kajiki (Mako Tsunami) is on List of minor duelists in Yu-Gi-Oh!. Fixed. JuJube (talk) 18:18, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
