Talk:List of Yokozuna
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Konishiki is in the wrong place (number 17) isn't he? Someone who knows the correct info about him should correct it.--Sjv27 20:46, 26 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- You're probably thinking of the wrong Konishiki. The gigantic Hawaiian of recent years never made it to Yokozuna. The original Konishiki was Yokozuna a hundred years ago - see the article on Konishiki. --Auximines 20:47, 27 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Should mention that these are assumed names, not their original names (at least for Konishiki, I think it's true for all of them.) Kappa 17:47, 27 Oct 2004 (UTC)
[edit] merging
I put some tags about merging on some articles. I can't believe that many of the yokozuna before wwii will ever have enough sources in english to be made more than one or two lines. I would think it would be better to create one article or a series of articles (such as pre meiji yokozuna, etc.) were we could group information. This is per WP:MM reason #3, text. - English-language sources are not required, just preferred when available. We can wait for someome to translate the Japanese articles. Kappa 16:50, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

- A lot of the Japanese articles are not all that long either. I also started a discussion at sumo's wikiproject talk page, as well, if other people have some ideas. XinJeisan 17:04, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
Even if someone translated the Japanese articles eventually, it is going to take time. If we redirect all the yokozuna stubs to one or two articles for now, we could make an article worth looking at. If anyone finds enough information, all they have to do is take out the redirect (takes five seconds) and add in their info. for a full articles. It's that simple. Nothing is lost. Entries in the combined articles that have substantial info could be linked so a User could see the full article if they want to, and I also think any individual articles should have a link to the merged article, so that people can read more easily about the other yokozuna (which is much faster than following the slow succession box route). I'll put this up on the project page as well. Malnova 22:27, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
I think that making them all one big article will actually discourage expansion, since it'll look completed. There are many published sources on all of these people, even if most are in Japanese, and in a long enough time frame I'm sure we'll have good articles for all of them (some, like Tanikaze Kajinosuke, are pretty good already, and I certainly didn't have trouble finding at least a few sources for Onogawa KisaburÅ when I worked on it a few months back). As such, I don't think merging is a good idea right now. -Hit bull, win steak(Moo!) 03:13, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
A number of people have started working on these individual articles and a lot of breadth has been added since talks of merging some of these articles began. I think for now, as expansion seems to be happening at a faster rate than we expected, that the issue of merging articles can be safely ignored for now. Malnova 09:32, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
