Talk:List of University of Notre Dame alumni

[edit] Truly Significant College Presidencies
I think the College Presidencies list that someone has augmented recently should be pruned to include only the heads of major research institutions such as the University of Wisconsin or major institutions with some type of national ranking like Cal Poly-Pomoma or Duquense. The fact that a Notre Dame alumnus runs Avila, Emporia State, Jacksonville, West Florida or Skidmore makes it look as though Notre Dame is grasping in a shotgun manner at elusive prestige when many of the positions Notre Dame alumni hold indicate a great measure of real prestige. I leave it to others to make any final decisions and will not make any edits myself. If someone is running Cal Tech or the University of Florida or the University of Texas, yes they belong on a list of a University's Notable alumni. Running Bethel or Lourdes is not in that category, however. Viterbo?????Thomas Aquinas???
- I agree. Many of the college presidents entries came from this page and seems to be somewhat of a copyright violation truly. I'm going to remove people without articles at least for now. Phydend 03:09, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Significance of People on the List
As seen above, I removed most of the entries from the academia section that didn't have articles on wikipedia. I was about to remove the rest, but I kind of want some sort of consensus. I know not many people work on this page, so I added it to WikiProject Notre Dame and hopefully someone will see it or something. Either way I think that many of the people on the list that don't have articles need to be removed. If anyone objects to a large-scale removal discuss here. If no one says anything I'm going to take out those with articles in the next few days. Phydend 03:58, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Clean-up and expansion
So I've been working on this list for awhile now in User space and just finished it. Anyway, I did a lot of clean-up work based on the Featured list List of Georgia Institute of Technology alumni. Like that list I ended up splitting off the athletes to their own list here and if anyone has a problem we can talk about it here or there, the problem was that there are over 400 people listed there and this list got too bulky. Anyway, I trimmed this list a little. I kept everyone that had an article (except for one person that I couldn't find a source that he went to ND), and kept others that could potentially have articles in the future (presidents of large companies, Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winners, and some government and law figures). As seen above there was already discussion on the merits of the college presidents, so I kept all of those that had articles, and anyone that was president of a college of more than 2400 people. It was kind of arbitrary and if someone wants to remove them or add others (with references) we can discuss it here. Anyway, just wanted to explain the big change.
