Talk:List of U.S. Wilderness Areas
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The list has 606 of the 662 wilderness areas. We need to track down the remaining few. Rmhermen 14:40, Oct 23, 2004 (UTC)
[edit] List Total as of October 2005
I counted 685 articles, but may be off. Some articles may be doubled up on states that border each other. Wilderness.net [1] lists 677 wilderness areas, so the list may still need adjustments.--MONGO 09:48, 4 October 2005 (UTC)
Two examples of doubling up include: Beaver Dam Mountains Wilderness and Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness which are on both the list for Arizona and for Utah.--MONGO 09:54, 4 October 2005 (UTC)
Removed three from Utah list as acreage is larger in neighboring states.--MONGO 09:58, 4 October 2005 (UTC)
- I returned them and added an alphabetical listing. But it still has 666 items which is 3 too many. Possible duplication among some very similarly named areas or somme state wildernesses slipped onto the list. Rmhermen 14:40, 4 October 2005 (UTC)
- Perhaps I made a mistake, but every single missing article was from Arizona...what a chore...but gave me something to do. I think the only thing we can do (unless someone wants to take the time and recount them) is as the articles are created, narrow it down then. I did see that there are like two or three "Bighorn Mountain" or Mountains articles sanctioned by Wilderness.net and there must be others of the same name...one article, I parentisized (sp) the word "Arizona" to disamiguate:(Hells Canyon)--MONGO 01:48, 5 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] List Total as of June 2007
I added 15 new Wilderness areas (NH, VT, NV) and updated the count from 680 to 702. So there are at least 7 missing at this point. --Jnik 15:33, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
