[edit] References and TOC
The issue has come up that these List of Star Wars planets pages lack TOCs. I removed a few for several reasons:
- Several pages already lacked one, and I felt all should be consistent.
- The TOCs were often long, unwiedly, and spanned the entire page (due to long Headings titles).
Therefore, I am currently working on developing a solution that will enable a functional TOC, as well as list of references, to be listed on the page. This is currently a work in progress. Since I am making small incremental changes and previewing them, I would appreciate it if no edits were made to the page until I am done, to avoid editing conflicts. (Undoubtedly someone's work would get overwritten.) I appreciate it very much!
Oh, and of course, once I am done, if no one likes the new style, feel free to revert a previous version. :) – Mipadi 14:39, August 15, 2005 (UTC)
- Work is complete. TOC is much less cumbersome; notes are much more organized. Leave comments as to effectiveness of edits. – Mipadi 15:04, August 15, 2005 (UTC)
Great start. Not near completion, but a great start
[edit] Unused references
In my editing, I noticed a lot of referenes are unused. I did not delete them yet, but should they be deleted so as to make the Notes section more organized and less cluttered? – Mipadi 15:06, August 15, 2005 (UTC)
- Now that they've been split up into multiple pages, a lot would be superfluous. But first, tell me which ones are you think are useless, and I'll verify first, alright? --Maru 18:25, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
-
- I don't have a list per se, but if you look at the page, there are many that are not referenced in any of the entries. – Mipadi 18:37, August 15, 2005 (UTC)

-
- Fine then, I shall go through them myself. Not that I have anything better to do... --Maru 18:43, 15 August 2005 (UTC)

- Sorry. I didn't remove them because I didn't know if there was a reason they were being maintained, or if they were just a legacy from when the original List of Star Wars planets page was split into multiple pages. – Mipadi 18:49, August 15, 2005 (UTC)

- Some are legacy/useless (like "Ambush at Corellia"), others are just not added yet (like "Coruscant and the Core Worlds"). --Maru 19:25, 15 August 2005 (UTC)

You know, if you're gonna get annoyed that no one's saying anything, you've got to give us more than 20 minutes to respond...bob rulz 18:59, August 15, 2005 (UTC)
- Um…pardon? Which one of us was that directed at? – Mipadi 19:05, August 15, 2005 (UTC)
-
- Oops, sorry. Forget I said anything, I don't know what I'm talking about...your names are so similar that I thought the same person said all of that. --bob rulz 19:07, August 15, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Anaxes image
Anaxes has a huge image next to it that spans several entries. It seems overkill for an entry with just a single line of text. Anyone object to removing it? – Mipadi 19:29, August 15, 2005 (UTC)
- I've thumbed the image. That better? --Maru 19:39, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
-
- It's not so much the image as the infobox, which is huge and seems out of place on this page. Is the information contained it in really that necessary, and something that summarizes the information in the entry for Anaxes? I think we could just put some of the infoboxe's information in the entry itself and dispense with the infobox (which is more suitable to a full-length entry, not a minor entry in a list page). – Mipadi 19:41, August 15, 2005 (UTC)

-
- Well, so long as you retain the data itself, go ahead. I was just being lazy there, borrowing from Wookiepedia. --Maru 19:45, 15 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] References formatting
The problem of citing references on this page has been bothering me for a while, and I've been trying to find a nice solution to the problem. I was using a template system to cite sources, but that had two problems:
- The references were placed in a numbered list; the number label did not always agree with Wikipedia's numbering of the reference.
- Citations in-text were done with superscripts, but they were numbered sequentially; i.e. by the end of the article, there might be a reference to entry #4 in the list, but it was marked as 34 in text.
Furthermore, the references list had problems: if entries were added in the middle of the list, then the numbering would also be off. This was not a problem for a while, since entries were not listed alphabetically and thus could just be tacked onto the end of the list, but if one wanted to alphabetize the list, it could throw off the numbering entries.
I think I have fixed the problem. The references list is now auto-numbered and sorted alphabetically by author's last name. References in the text are referenced parenthetically, using the author's last name and a short book title, if the author has more than one book in the Refs section. (I should note that I thought about using superscript citations, but that brought up the problem that, if entries were added to references, then the numbering for the whole article would be thrown off).
In-text citations also allow specific pieces of text to be cited (although that is not done currently; citations are just made at the end of the article).
Thoughts? Comments? If this seems to be working, I'd like to apply it to all the rest of the "List of Star Wars planets" pages. – Mipadi 21:11, 17 September 2005 (UTC)
- How does one reference a particular book where the author has done multiple books? What about two authors who share the same last name? --Maru (talk) 21:25, 17 September 2005 (UTC)
-
- Well, it basically just follows the standard MLA style guide for in-text citations, so an author with multiple books would be cited with the last name and a short book title, as noted above. Example: (Zahn, Specter)
- In the case of two authors with the same last name, the MLA style guide calls for the use of a first initial or name. Example: (Doe, J.; Doe, M.) – Mipadi 22:09, 17 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Ssi-ruuk / Ssi-Ruuk
This is just an aside to the entry on Bakura, but I am wondering what the correct capitalization of "Ssi-ruuk" is. Checking the Wookieepedia, it would seem that it should be "Ssi-Ruuk". Yet if I recall correctly, throughout The Truce at Bakura it appeared as "Ssi-ruuk". Can someone explain to me why the latter form was dropped? --wacko 142.165.253.156 04:47, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Aramand
Not sure if Aramand should remain on the list. As far as I can find out, there is a planet called Aram in the Aramand Sector, inhabited by the Aramandi. No mention of any Janians concerned with this planet though. Perhaps change to Aram and fix erroneous info, and move Aramand to List of Star Wars systems? --wacko 207.195.103.17 17:35, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
- I went ahead and changed the info.
- *whaps head* Did I say the Aramand Sector? I meant the Aramand Cluster. Which brings up another point: where in the heck does a cluster go? It's not a single system, but a small group of systems. --wacko2 06:03, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
