[edit] Timeline
This should become a timeline. If anyone feels it makes it worse, feel free to edit.--Ranat 23 14:46, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
- Go ahead. If you need help just ask on my talk page Jedi6 21:11, 24 December 2005 (UTC)
- Okay, its done. I have collected series into the TPB versions to make it easier to read. There were many issues left out in the original list so they should be in there now. Remember, feel free to make changes.--Ranat 23 14:46, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] 2-1 BBY
I have a different order for the 2-1 BBY area. I have it pretty much like this
2 BBY
- Han Solo At Stars' End by Brian Daley & Archie Goodwin
- Crumb for Hire by Ryder Windham (published in A Decade of Dark Horse #2)
- Boba Fett: Enemy of the Empire by John Wagner
- First Impressions by Nathan Walker (published in Tales Issue 15)
1 BBY
- Empire Volume 2: Darklighter by Paul Chadwick
- The Princess Leia Diaries (pages 10-12) by Jason Hall (published in Tales Issue 11)
- Dark Forces: Soldier for the Empire by William C. Dietz
- Prey by Kia Asamiya (published in Tales Issue 11)
- Underworld: The Yavin Vassilika by Mike Kennedy
- Extinction by Ron Marz (published in Tales Issues 1-2)
- The Hovel on Terk Street by Tom Fassbender & Jom Pascoe (published in Tales Issue 6)
- The Rebel Four by Jay Stephens (published in Tales Issue 9)
- Empire Volume 4: The Heart of the Rebellion by Randy Stradley
- Empire Volume 1: Betrayal by Scott Allie
I was just wondering if anyone had a problem with this order or just any comments to confirm or deny this order. It's been a while since I found this order, but I think I got it from TheForce.net --Skope 18:35, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Flashbacks?
How does everyone feel about putting the flashbacks of certain storylines into the order of things? --Skope 18:35, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Chronology
Wouldn't it be more useful to make this a real-life chronology, instead of a fictional one? That way, instead of being a list of one-off chapters, storylines, or issues, this could actually be a list of series and miniseries, much the way most other comics are handled. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 03:48, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
The reason I mention this is because I came here to figure out what title the Archie Goodwin Star Wars comics is under (since the title of the series was just "Star Wars") and also a list of all the Star Wars comics published under Marvel's time with the license (as opposed to Dark Horse's comics), and this list is completely useless for both of those. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 03:51, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
- If you mean make this more of a list, that's a bad idea. The timeline is much more suitable for todays' EU.--Ranat 23 14:46, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
-
- Why? - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 02:39, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- Because the 'canon' timeline is much more appealing to those who collect the comics for they prefer to organize them according to the EU timeline. A simple list will not help and make this a lot harder to do. Besides, the Marvel comics are collected in the "A Long Time Ago..." TPB series.--Ranat 23 14:46, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
- We're not writing a fan guide, we're writing an encyclopedia. A "fictional chronology" list may be fine as a supplement or appendix to this list, but the main organization of ANY article should be from the perspective of the real world. All publication dates for all titles need to be provided, and these should form the basis for organizing the list. Postdlf 23:50, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

- There's no reason we can't have two lists: one by publication date, and an EU timeline. --Hotdoglives 01:19, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

- This page should not be layed out in terms of fictional chronology. Who decided what fictional order the stories belonged in anyway? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.140.244.90 (talk) 01:28, 14 April 2007

- That man would be George Lucas. And the various writers of the individual stories, who work together to establish a timeline of fictional events. See the comic books and the Dark Horse website for official timeline information. --Hotdoglives 06:14, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

- So George Lucas has stated that Tom Veitch's Empire's End takes place after Boba Fett: Death, Lies, & Treachery and Crimson Empire? You don't happen to have a citation for that do you? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 74.140.244.90 (talk) 01:38, 17 April 2007 (UTC).

- Official Dark Horse timeline - There is your citation. George Lucas doesn't have that much to do with the EU, he just wrote the broad story line of course, and approves story ideas. But Dark Horse is an official source for the comic book timeline. --Hotdoglives 05:18, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

- But it was neither George Lucas nor the writers of the individual stories who created the detailed chronology of this list so you were still wrong. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 74.140.244.90 (talk) 22:30, 30 April 2007 (UTC).

- I'm with A Man in Black, etc. While I don't say this page in its current form is useless, it provides essentially no information to the casual reader who just wants to learn about the various comics series which have been published under the Star Wars aegis. It requires a significant amount of knowledge about the SW EU and its history to interpret in any meaningful way. But if I just wanted to learn that Marvel published a SW series in the '80's followed by Ewoks and Droids spin-offs, and there was a comic strip series in [whenever], and Dark Horse published a series spanning various eras called Star Wars Tales, this list is impenetrable. Why can't someone who knows something of the history of SW comics just create a list of the various series put out by the various publishers, and when, so that a person who doesn't already know everything about the subject can find useful information here? --12.17.21.162 (talk) 17:33, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
Publishing dates need to be added for all the comic book series. This article should have two chronologies, one of fictional chronology, and one of publishing chronology (which is missing), like in most other articles of this sort (see list of Star Trek comic books and list of Transformers comic books). Publishing companies also need to be added.
This page is terribly lacking right now and doesn't even tell what the first published series was, nor does it explain which were the major series, nor does it tell who published which series, giving readers interested in reading these comic books no idea what place to start. To turn User:Ranat 23's argument of "Because the 'canon' timeline is much more appealing to those who collect the comics for they prefer to organize them according to the EU timeline." on its head, actually, I would argue that a publishing timeline would be just as useful to those wanting to collect the comics.

[edit] Title Deletions
I am deleting some of the titles because of the new comics added.--Ranat 23 14:46, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Visionaries: EU or Infinity?
- I am wondering whether we should move the collection into the Infinities section. Has it been confirmed if it is 'canon' or not?--Ranat 23 14:46, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
- They belong in the Infinities era[1] --Hotdoglives 04:52, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] infobox template
I made an infobox template for the comics ...... Template:Infobox SW Comics
{{Infobox SW Comics | name = | image = | script = | cover_art = | lettering = | art = | pencils = | inks = | colors = | designer = | art_dir = | editor = | asst_editor = | asso_editor = | era = | series = | galactic_year = | canon = | publisher = | release_date = | pages = | size_weight = | isbn = | preceded_by = | followed_by = }}
The features and conditions are all on Template:Infobox SW Comics, so read them before using it. -Skope 05:45, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
- Its looks great! Good Job Jedi6-(need help?) 17:02, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] trade paperbacks
I guess maybe I'm the only one who'd like to see the trade paperbacks broken down? I don't know. I guess I'd like to be able to search the page for "The Dreadnaughts of Rendili", and return something. Instead, I have to already know that it is under Clone Wars Volume 6: On the Fields of Battle. Is everyone okay with maybe listing the individual comics beneath, like ...
- Clone Wars Volume 6: On the Fields of Battle
-
- Republic #65: Show of Force, Part 1
- Republic #66: Show of Force, Part 2
- Republic #67: Forever Young
- Republic #68: Armor
- Republic #69: The Dreadnaughts of Rendili, Part 1
- Republic #70: The Dreadnaughts of Rendili, Part 2
- Republic #71: The Dreadnaughts of Rendili, Part 3
I don't think it would be hard to read, just having more information on the page. And on occasion, single comics might bisect the the trade paperback, timeline-wise. And others, they're just all over the place, like the Honor and Duty TPB. It contains Republic #46-48, and #78. I can understand grouping into the TPBs like in the instance of the Tales of the Jedi series, where they're all back-to-back story lines (each are just one story arc), but the Republic TPBs group story arcs. -Skope 18:57, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] The Bounty Hunters (Anthology)
Does this refer to the TPB of Kenix Kil, Scoundrel's Wages, Aurra Sing, and Boba Fett: Twin Engines of Destruction? Because this is one of the occurences that the TPB's breakdown is spread out chronologically. Kenix Kil is in 11 ABY, Aurra Sing is in 31 BBY, Boba Fett: Twin Engines of Destruction is in 6 ABY, and Scoundrel's Wages is in 3 ABY, but the anthology is listed in 32 BBY. I'm planning on removing it, but I'm just making certain that it is referring to what I think it is. --Skope 04:38, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Jason Hall
There is a bit of a problem as the current Jason Hall entry redirects to some obscure bands page. I don't see this as a problem but there have been speedy deletions for that entry but only in relation to the band and the notability of having and entry for the singer (who is Jason Boyd Hall anyway). I say we can claim the entry back as it would be a real pain going through all the entries and editting it so it pointed somewhere. To aovid failing into the speedy deletion trap it might be a good idea if someone mocked up an entry for him first and then dropped it in so it was clear that it isn't more of the same. Thoughts? (Emperor 23:26, 19 May 2006 (UTC))
- Consider it claimed. -Skope 05:43, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Star Wars Tales
The Star Wars Tales series is not canon, so I don't think the individual stories should be listed in the timeline. I think just having the TPBs listed under Infinities Era is sufficient. --Hotdoglives 01:19, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
- Well I guess some of the stories *might* be canon, but I'm going to start removing those that obviously aren't. --Hotdoglives 05:41, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- George R. Binks and Lil' Maul should be removed from the canon listing and put into the Infinities Era. At least Lil' Maul should- it's already in Infinities! (Why is it listed twice?) The George R. Binks thing seems ridiculous, but could very well be canon. -- Goatlegs 02:43, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] column formatting (authors)
what was wrong with the columns under Writers, that you needed to change the formatting, Hotdoglives? As far as I saw, the previous code tag had them at an even three columns and it was fluid so that if more names were added, it stayed even... but now they're not even and are fixed height. —Skope (talk) 06:24, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry, the previous formatting didn't show up on my browser. (It just showed them in one column.) I have Internet Explorer 7, but maybe my settings are just messed up or something. Feel free to change it back. --Hotdoglives 11:15, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] New Infobox
Some folks (of WikiProject Comics, I think) created a new infobox (Supercbbox). I liked how it looked, so I modified ours (Infobox SW Comics) towards the formatting theirs used. The original content is still there. There are just four new items on the list: Schedule, Format, Issues, and Main Characters. If anyone is interested in helping with the update, just add the following code the line between "isbn" and "preceded_by"...
|schedule = |format = |issues = |main_char_team =
It doesn't really matter that much unless we add content in those headings. Schedule might be something like "Monthly" or "Weekly". Format could be "Ongoing", "Story arc", or "One-shot". Issues would really just be for series that have run their course, that way we wouldn't have to keep updating the number. Then the Main Character item is kind of self-explanatory. If you've read the comics, you'll know who they are. —Skope (talk) 23:04, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
- The new format looks nice, but I liked it better when the main picture was of the TPB. --Hotdoglives 01:02, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Dark Forces
As far as I am concerned, Dark Forces is not included in the comics canon time line. Dark Forces would be part of the literature canon. I hunted through the Star Wars: The Comics Companion I have next to me, and this thing doesn't show up as a comic. Hunting the internet and asking fellow fans discovers that the Dark Forces trilogy are books, as well as audio books. I think they should be removed, then. -- Goatlegs 02:40, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Infinities logo.gif
Image:Infinities logo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
