[edit] Teri Hatcher, pre-Lois and Clark

"Teri Hatcher, as Sidra ("The Implant", "The Pilot", "The Finale"). It should be noted that Hatcher also played Lois Lane on the TV series The Adventures of Lois and Clark and her casting was probably an in-joke."

The Implant originally aired in Feb 1993 (and was no doubt filmed in 1992), while Lois and Clark didn't premiere until September 1993. I find it hard to believe that this is really an in-joke, more likely a coincidence. I'm editing this unless someone has more/better info. PxT 18:36, 7 Jul 2004 (UTC)

I've been fixing mass quantities of misspellings of the name Jon Voigt; it was uniformly Voight all over the wiki, and that's wrong ... but on this page I can't be sure that the second occurence of Voight is wrong, because it's a different (perhaps ficticious) person referred to == and Voight might actually be a more common (and therefore likely) spelling. ;Bear 05:47, 2004 Sep 8 (UTC)

I'd say the second spelling is 'John Voigt' .. when Jerry makes fun that the name is spelled wrong, he only picks on the Jon, John difference, so we can assume the dentist John Voigt's surname is spelled the same as the actor's. -- Generica 01:45, Sep 9, 2004 (UTC)
I do realise this conversation is almost a year old, but I am sure it's Jon Voight. Check the IMDb link here. "Google Fight" yields 134,000 results for Jon Voigt and 674,000 results for Jon Voight. Wow, this is just like what happened on the TV show. -Hyad 07:34, July 20, 2005 (UTC)

I recommend splitting up secondary characters in a new article and sort the characters according to relation (comparable to List of characters from The Simpsons). Anyone agree or disagree?--Will2k 19:30, Jun 6, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Reorganization

We definitely need some better organization for the characters. I split up the Recurring Characters in to those that occur in at least 5 episodes which I think is fair. Obviously, you have background characters in 5 eps included, like Dugan, but major characters in fewer eps not included, like Lloyd Braun or Babu.

  • I propose we have sections like Jerry's girlfriends, etc. To better organize the page. It is just going to get worse until it includes every mention of a character.
  • Maybe we should split up characters and culture. Though related this page is getting big.

People, this article is not "Seinfeld characters and culture", it is "Seinfeld trivia". I was expecting a discussion of Seinfeld's place in culture, or its use of culture. Instead I find (amonst other things) a list of people who are mentioned once in the series. Can we trim this back? It's already out of hand. At the very least lets give it it's right name. I agree that it has gotten out of hand. If you look at the page history, a lot of the recent work that has been done is by IP addresses (possibly people unfamiliar with the overall goals of the wikipedia). Personally I think it should be moved to "Seinfeld characters," with the Seinfeld sayings section dropped. This section (at least; perhaps more of the page) violates the Wikipedia is not guidelines (a list of quotes). Whitejay251 17:58, 3 October 2005 (UTC)
What I suggest is: 1) rename the page "Minor chracters in Seinfeld". 2) Remove the people who are only referenced and don't actually appear 3) Remove the characters for which there is already an article (that's a surprising number, including a rooster who appears in only one episode) 4) Remove the sayings, though I'm a little reluctant to just kill them all. Is there somewhere else they could go? 5) Move the pseudonyms to the articles about the characters. How does that sound? DJ Clayworth 18:12, 3 October 2005 (UTC)

  2. if we make this page about minor characters, that would make sense - however, much as you are reluctant to kill all the quotes, I'm reluctant to kill this list, perhaps spin it to its own page?

Under "Actual people played by others" it says "Monica Seles as 'herself'". Obviously both of these can't be true. There are similar entries in the same section. DJ Clayworth 14:39, 3 October 2005 (UTC)

I decided to investigate whether or not that was JFKJr. playing himself: here it implies he did, but here it says he did not. (I didn't spend much time on this). IMDB doesn't list a credit for the role. Whitejay251 19:13, 5 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Splitting off

Okay, I see that movement is finally occuring on clean-up of this page. I'm going about splitting off new pages of the some of the stuff it's been agreed doesn't belong on a minor characters page. It's stuff that's of use to a Seinfeld fan but may not be encyclopedic. Let's see how long it is until they're AfD'd. Anyway, new pages created:

  • List of Seinfeld references to actual people
  • List of Seinfeld terms

The character is listed as Poppie on this page, but as Poppy on the actor's page. Most online references seem to use Poppy, but one, seinfeldscripts, calls him Poppie... the scripts there have been say they are transcribed - it doesn't say if they were transcribed from the shows, or from copies of the original scripts. If the latter, then I guess Poppie would be definitive, but otherwise?!?!?1 Jafafa Hots 00:48, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

How about adding the african-american woman named Rebecca DeMornay? She was the person from a homeless shelter that complained about the topless muffins... the only thing is, I don't know the episode name, and I don't know if she appeared in more than one episode (She may have been in the finale, for instance?) [edit] Notable one-time characters

Notable one-time characters. Smuckers the dog? The Pig-Man? The Saddam Hussein look-alike? Give me a break. Do you really think that this is going to become part of the enduring historical record relating to Seinfeld?

We need to get rid of a lot of this. This is not a dumping ground for a one-line description of every character who has even been on Seinfeld. I think the title is partially to blame, since "notable" is up to interpretation and places no definite limits on inclusion, but this absolutely needs to be cleaned up and culled.

Perhaps we could start with only including the characters who reappeared in "The Finale"? That shows at least that the writers felt that those characters were memorable enough to be reintroduced. Dylan 11:36, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

There are two things about this character which need to be learned. First off, how is his name spelled? I have seen it as Dalrymple and Dalrimple, but I wouldn't be suprised if it wasn't even one of those two. Secondly, how many episodes does he actually occur in. I know he is in the following episodes: The Pitch, The Ticket, The Wallet, The Watch, The Virgin, The Shoes, The Pilot, Part 1, and The Pilot, Part 2. (I say 7 episodes because I am pretty sure that The Pilot Part 1 and 2 count as 1 episode together). If anyone can expland on any of this, please do. Acidskater (talk) 23:09, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

I have merged the pages of minor recurring characters in Seinfeld into this article. It's silly to have one paragraph about a character who's on this page. (See merged pages below.)

One issue I see: How does merging Sally Weaver into this article affect the categories on that page, Category:Fictional comedians and Category:Fictional characters from Tennessee? I'm interested in opinions.  ~ InkQuill  03:02, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Larry the Cook does not need his own page! That is ridiculous and totally uninformative. As far as merging Sally Weaver, she would no longer appear in those categories, but who cares, she was a minor character - thats the whole point of the merge right? I say merge (although I think a case can be made for Peterman). All articles in question are short enough where they can be displayed in full on this page anyways, so we aren't really losing anything, if anything, improving. smooth0707 (talk) 02:47, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

I'd really like to eliminate redundancies in the Seinfeld articles. Here are two issues:

First List of Seinfeld cast members is totally unnecessary. Everything on it is in this article or in Seinfeld and this article is far more complete.

Second, there's a bunch of repetition in this article. Many guest stars appear twice, in "Celebrities who played themselves" and "Notable one-time characters", among other places. I'd like to consolidate it--maybe by merging the "Actual people" section entirely into others. What think?  ~ InkQuill  17:37, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

You have Mr. Littman credited as being only one person, but in fact the first appearance of Mr. Littman he was someone other then Richard Fancy, Harris Shore. According to Unofficial Seinfeld Encyclopedia, he appeared in "The Libary."

If this is a list of characters in Seinfeld, how come "celebrities or significant TV actors not playing themselves" are listed under "Actual people"? If their characters merit inclusion in the "Notable one-time characters" section, that's the place for them; if not, I fail to see how the fame of a Seinfeld actor would make him a Seinfeld character in his own right. -- Jao (talk) 17:31, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Not really. To take an example: currently both Dr. Tim Whatley and Bryan Cranston are listed, Whatley as a "Character appearing in 5 or more episodes" and Cranston as a "Celebrity or significant TV actor not playing himself". Whatley clearly belongs on the list, being a Seinfeld character (and of course it should be mentioned, as it already is, that he is played by Cranston), but I don't understand why Cranston warrants his own entry in a list of characters. -- Jao (talk) 13:05, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
