Talk:List of Resident Evil creatures
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The current article contains few sources and no external links. I'm particularly concerned about the "licker," as some of the information seems questionable at best. In addition, the author has managed to completely exclude other creatures, among them neptunes, snakes, etc. --AWF
- My main sources are the Resident Evil Archives, Capcom's official website or files from the main games. I didn't include the Neptune and Yawn, since most of those only made one-shot appearances as far as the main series is concerned (RE0-4 and RECV). I'm gonna include them when I cover individual games. The Licker entry wasn't written by me and you're right, it's too vague. Jonny2x4 17:02, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
IIRC, the Stinger is only in a Perry book and would be considered non-canon. -- Java
[edit] Lisa Trevor
the info under Lisa trevor doesnt make much sense =/ someone should fix that (i dont own the game so i dont know what to put there)
[edit] Adding new Pictures/updating creature info/gonna reformat the lower creatures links...
Ive been maily adding and updatuing the info for the creatures as well as adding images of each, www.residentevilfan.com allows you to use them due to no copyright and they have alot of them so that is my main source, also the bottom links to creatures needs an update so ill change that to, ill add about 10 or 20 pics a day, after that im burnt out, if anyone wants to help me, feel free to join in... ~RE expert44~
-
- Uh..Sure. Um, what makes you think that the site allows you to use them "due to no copyright"....? Artwork produced by companies for video games is always copyrighted one way or another. Weather its fair use or not is debateable. Please don't "add about 10 or 20 pics a day", this a free encyclopediac project intent in abiding by the Fair Use policy and we only utilize such licenses only as we need to teach the reader. If you engage in these actions, you may be blocked. I've copied this to your talkpage. -ZeroTalk 22:47, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

-
- Well they do say people are free to use them as they want, http://www.residentevilfan.com/faq.asp that says they made em, anyone can use em, i just thought since they said i could use them why not, so people get an accurate idea of what their looking for. If a site says i can use them am i allowed to or is it still not allowed? But what if you make your own images, can you use as many of them as you want? Help me out... ~REexpert44~

- Despite this, they're still classified as fair use, and as such are not exactly apropriate in unnecessary quantities. See Wikipedia:Images and its sister links for more information. Hope that helps.-ZeroTalk 23:21, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

- Thanks, ill only add them to the ones that really need it, like creatures that get easily confused and ill still continue to update info, also is is ok to update the link of creatures in the template at the bottom of the page to show the current active roster, or should i let that be?

New stuff Added some new info on creatures, added new creatures, fixed almost all appearences (if someone would help me by making them all uniform, by changing all (Resident Evil :code veronica's to Resident Evil Code: Veronica, and all Resident Evil Ø to Resident Evil 0) and tommorow im going to change the bottom template...
- Please stop adding masses of fair use images to this page, especially high-res images. Fair use is explicitly limited to a small quantity of copyrighted material. This is way beyond it. Stifle (talk) 09:44, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

- While I agree the former was excessive, I would like to have some more pictures- especially the middle section of the article is devoid of pictures, wich is a bit discouraging to read. Black Hole 12:46, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Resident Evil 4 Creature Merge?
Should the creatures from resident evil 4 be merged with this article?
[edit] Proper Naming
Why is it refered to as the "Suspen-Dead." It's real, in-game name is the Regis Licker. That is the real name. "Suspen-Dead" is a stupid term.Mealstrom 01:00, 17 June 2006 (UTC) I think it's something the article's writer came up with. Aside from the article in question, I've never heard the term "Suspen-Dead" used, not by a single character or on a single file. I thought maybe it was in a character adlib that I'd missed or something but apparently nobody else has ever heard the term either. Maybe the article's writer should be given a chance to explain him/herself in this discussion. If he/she doesn't show up, we should change it. Gamer Junkie 01:28, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
- "Suspen-Dead" I believed was coined by Dan Birlew. I'm not sure if it is official. Best change it to Regis Licker. Parjay 12:50, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
Why there is no picture of the Suspen Dead, huh?!
- I'm a bit late here, but the name Suspen-Dead comes from the strategy guide I bought for the game. It's an official Capcom guide, and I'll find it wherever it's laying around here and give the title, author's name, etc., as soon as I can. But I did not make up the name. - Kooshmeister
- Okay, I found it. It's the BradyGames Official Strategy Guide by Dan Birlew. All the other character and monster names given in the book are official, so logically "Suspen-Dead" should be considered canon as well. I myself have never seen the name "Regis Licker" in any official literature or in-game material. - Kooshmeister
"Regis Licker" is used in conjunction with the CG images in the "Collection" area. It is also the term used on the "Scenario Completion" checklist. Personally, I believe the term "Suspen-Dead" should be mentioned in brackets adjacent to the title name, followed by the term "Regis Licker" for the main article, as it is obviously Capcom's preferred description. Would that be acceptable to everybody else? Gamer Junkie 03:01, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- I don't think so. Even though it's an official guide, it's still written by a third party team and not Capcom themselves. Besides, if the game names it "Regis Licker" it speaks for itself. Suspen-Dead shouldn't be mentioned. Parjay 10:23, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yes it should be. I'm not asking for the creature to be listed under the name Suspen-Dead, just that the alternate name be mentioned. There's no reason it can't be mentioned somewhere in the Regis Licker's entry; Wikipedia mentions alternate and/or non-canonical names all the time. And incidentally, even if it is third party naming, it's third party naming in an official publication which was okay'd by Capcom and carries their official logo. Suspen-Dead therefore merits at least a mention. - Kooshmeister
- I've put Suspen-Dead back in for the above mentioned reasons. If it's taken out, I'll put it back again. As I said there's no reason the name can't at least be mentioned along with an explanation of why it isn't canonical. I don't believe in simply omitting things. - Kooshmeister
- The way I see it, and im sure others, there's not much point in mentioning it. Even though an "official" guide, it still wasn't written by them. I believe I recall the same thing happening with those Silent Hill 2 "official guidebooks"; 3'rd party names. If Suspen-Dead is allowed, then it's going to open the door to anybody who wants to add some silly 3rd party name just because it was mentioned in an "offical" guidebook or an interviewer who wasn't corrected when asking the game Creators etc. Hell, by your rationale of "official", then we should also list those 3rd party names from the "official" Resident Evil novelisations... -Parjay 10:28, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- You seem to misunderstand my motivation here. I'm not trying to say that names like "Suspen-Dead" are official. But they exist, and should get a mention along with the reasons why they aren't official as long as their origins stem from an official publication. If I was trying to say it was the creature's canon name, you've have a point, but all I'm asking for is a footnote for crying out loud.

It also happens to be called Suspend-Dead in Resident Evil: Outbreak's achievement guide (In the game's purchasing menu no less), and several strategy guides (most notably Bradygames). User:Jaimas —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.165.196.154 (talk) 05:46, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
"Hell, by your rationale of "official", then we should also list those 3rd party names from the "official" Resident Evil novelisations..."
Check the other entries elsewhere, we already do. Mr. X, for example, doesn't that name only come from the action figure and Perry's novel? It gets a mention. And Nicholai's alternate last name Sokolov from the RE: Apocalypse novel is mentioned in passing on his page. No one has a problem with these. So I vote Suspen-Dead stays as long as it's just a footnote. - Kooshmeister
- Then those are problems that need fixed too. This article is over-long as it is, and I can't see an agreeable reason why any suspect non-canonical naming should take up even more space. Like I said before, it's really going to become a problem if more and more people start adding in any and all 3rd party naming and a paragraph of description on each. Parjay 22:34, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
- Whatever. It's just a footnote. I don't agree with this, or that mentioning the alternate content of the novels and comics is a "problem" that needs "fixing." So if it's changed, count on me restoring it. Conversely, I will look out for actual fanon names. - Kooshmeister
- "So if it's changed, count on me restoring it." Wow, nice outlook on the dispute. Anyhow, while I look into taking this into official Dispute status, for now lets agree to at least add 3rd party naming as short as possible. I suggest each creature (that needs so) having a footnote saying: Also uncanonically named: xxxx etc. rather than a paragraph of discussion on why (see your "suspen-dead" entry) - in order to keep the article length to a minimum. -Parjay 10:56, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

How about "The Regis Licker (referred to as the Suspen-Dead in the Resident Evil: Outbreak Official Strategy Guide) ..." followed by the remainder of the article? Then we could alter non-canon articles mentioned above by Kooshmeister to reflect this title or similiar as well. You'll both need to come to some sort of a compromise sooner or later. constantly changing and reverting for the sake of argument is going to become tiresome, eventually. [edit] Alphabetical Order
Can someone please put the creatures in Alphabetical Order.
I think they're planning on leaving it in categories rather than alphabetical order. Gamer Junkie 07:24, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
I meant putting them in alphabetical order within each category.
- Example: In the Mammal/Hybrid category, "Zombie" would be last because it begins with "Z".
I understood what you meant. I'd lend a hand, but I'm currently taking care of the "Resident Evil: Outbreak" character articles and the minor Deus Ex character articles at the moment. Perhaps somebody more familiar with editing articles could show you how to do it. If anybody in the know is reading this, that is.
- I definately agree that the creatures under each specific title should be in aplhabetical order, I would do it myself but I'm not sure how to do it. I guess I could copy and paste them in order, but there must be an easier way. Right?--Mmmundo 22:39, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Zombie Crows?
In resident evil 4? I can't remember them? some one clarify before I remove resident evil 4 from the list of games they appear in.

[edit] Article Purpose
Can we all please agree on just what exactly this article should entail? The opening reads: "the following is a list of RECURRING creatures". Obviously there is a lot of creatures listed here that are NOT recurring creatures in the series. Parjay 16:19, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
We should simply remove "recurring". I think it would best serve the article if all creature biographies remained. Gamer Junkie 10:00, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Appears in Sections?
Does anyone besides me feel that we should redue the 'Appears In' Section of the creatures to make them neater? Any suggestions?
How do you mean? Categorise by game? That would be difficult, taking into account that many of these creatures appear in several, if not all, titles. Gamer Junkie 19:23, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Copyright Violation
What's the deal here? The supplied link to this supposed text doesn't even work. Parjay 01:19, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
- Many of the creature descriptions are exactly identical to their corresponding articles. I sent the Webmaster an Email about the conflict, but he has yet to reply. Sometime last week, many portions of the site were taken down, because the site is currently undergoing some reconstruction. If I do not get a reply from him over the next week or two, I'll take down the tag. For Now, Look at its Google Cache and compare it to the earlier entires for the T-Virus T/G Virus, and Tyrant (Resident Evil), [1] --ShadowJester07 01:42, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
- I see the simlairities, indeed. However, it is now up to the webmaster to prove that he wrote the articles first and not lifted them from here, so I will be waiting for his reply. Meantime, I'll keep an eye on the site - im interested in seeing his articles on some of the creatures I wrote for here on the wiki - that will tell me if he's using from wiki. Parjay 12:11, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
- I rewrote some of the T/G Virus article many months ago. If it's exactly the same as the page in question, then it has been taken from here. I assure you, I've never seen this "Visions of Terror" website in my life. Brian O'Shaughnessy? Wasn't he an editor here? Gamer Junkie 03:17, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

I removed two bits of text that were asking for cheat codes to the game, they were located underneath the beginning paragraph and above the zombie headline. Zrekhan 19:10, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Splitting the list.
Perhaps it's better to split the list after. I originally based this on the creature list from Biohazard Archives, but didn't expect that the Outbreak games have so many new creatures. I propose the following.
- Creatures in the original Resident Evil (would cover Yawn, Plant 42, Chimera, Black Tiger, along with REmake-specific cretures such as Crimsom Heads and Lisa Trevor)
- Creatures in Resident Evil 2 (would cover Lickers, the Ivy/Poison Ivy, the Alligator and G, Birkin's mutated form)
- Creatures in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (would cover the Nemesis itself, Hunters Beta and Gamma, Drain Deimos, Brainsuckers, Sliding Worms and the Gravedigger. If it's too short, we could merge with miscellanous Resident Evil creatures)
- Creatures in Resident Evil Code: Veronica (would cover the Bandersnatch, Nosferatu, the Gulp Worm and the mutated Alexia)
- Creatures in Resident Evil 0 (Lurkers, Eliminators, Plague Crawlers, Mimicry Marcus and the Queen Leech)
- Creatures in Resident Evil Outbreak (covers all creatures introduced in File #1 and 2)
- Creatures in Resident Evil: Dead Aim (Morpheus, ect.)
- Creatures in Resident Evil 4 (already done)
There's no need to create a list for the first two Gun Survivor games, since they took their enemy designs from RE2 and RECV respectively. Perhaps the Cleaners could be added to a list covering miscellaneous creatures covering games that don't have dedicated creature pages (which could be used to cover original designs from the novels and films). Jonny2x4 07:45, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
- How about condensing it first? Half of these are "such and such animal, only a zombie." - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 07:51, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Licker/Crimson Head/V-ACT whatever
Obviously somebody believes quite vigorously that the Licker is a further mutated Crimson Head or something, but I've never seen anythng like this. If we really want to get this sorted out, I suggest finding the file in the Resident Evil: Survivor game for the original PlayStation. There's a note that details what Lickers and Hunters actually are. Something to do with the T-Virus infecting DNA instead of the bloodstream turns people into Lickers instead of Zombies. I can't remember, because I no longer have the game, but it's located in the library or an office or something close to the beginning of the game. Does anybody still have the game to confirm this? Gamer Junkie 07:04, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- No, the file in Survivor states that a zombie who receives another (ie second) dose/exposure to the T-virus mutates into a Licker. We've seen early stage Lickers like the transforming Regis Licker and the "young" Lickers that knock about Outbreak (the slimmer, easier ones). It's pretty obvious that the Crimson Head is the mutation predecessor of the Regis Licker (from the colour, mutation, claws, method of mutation, etc). While obviously true, it's still original research until a source is provided, so remove it. Parjay 17:26, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I took a look at the file, myself. It says that Hunters are created after the T-Virus is exposed to DNA. It just says that Lickers are a result of a mutation that occurs in some people after exposure. Gamer Junkie 20:11, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] A few questions
Just been cleaning up the article a bit, and I was wondering if the structure of the article is right. We've got paragraphs sandwiched between the contents box and the zombie pic. Aren't we supposed to avoid that? Also, is it more efficient for WP to have two separate articles, one for the RE4 creatures and one for the rest, when both articles are over-long? Or is it better to have one huge article? I can see why the decision was made, with 4 introducing a whole new roster of creatures, just thinking. Both articles are too long and need cleaning up, so I thought I'd help. Thoughts? Geoff B 16:28, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- I definately think that we should keep two seperate articles, one for the Resident Evil 4 creatures and the other for all the other creatures in the Resident Evil universe.--Mmmundo 22:34, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
- But then surely the title of the article is misleading? As it's only a partial list? I don't think merging the articles is a solution (although both have shrunk with most of the crap removed), but I don't know what else to do. Geoff B 00:19, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] where are the pictures?
It seems as if thay just disappeared. What happened to the pictures of the stages of William Birkin's mutation, and all the other things? I would appreciate it if someone would add pictures, screenshots, etc. to each creature.

[edit] William Birkin
This is not fan fiction. Would it be safe to state the the reason why william birkin right arm mutated like that initial stage of his tranformations? I guess the G-Virus mutated his right arm in that way beacuse of the damage his body sustained when he was shot by the Umbrella Special Forces. If one looks closely one can see that he was shot more on the right side of his body including his right arm. If you not sure play the game again and check or look for a video on Youtube of the gameplay footage of Resident Evil 2 with cutscenes (i suggest louischou's gameplay footage). I am not trying to insult those who do heavy research on the game and then write about it (who are hard working and I thank on the well written articles), I am just trying to help with the article so please dont take me in a negative light. (mind the spelling, my spelling is terible) Can I suggest that this whole article be converted into a table. The columbs, i suggest, should be in the order... Picture | Name (with links) | (Brief) Description | Appearances... Also each creature must have there own article... Because I belive that this articles way to long and there are barely no visual aids (or something more like that) for any one to understand... I will start transforming all of these into tables some time this week...
