[edit] Good Article nomination has failed succeeded!
The Good article nomination for List of Oregon State University alumni has failed, for the following reason:
- Should probably have pictures to accompany the most notable people. Also a list does not make this article easily readible. Failed by (1) and (6) from the good article criteria. Chuck(척뉴넘) 06:52, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
- Could you expand on #1? A list is the standardized way to have groups of people by university affiliation. Why else would we have Category:Lists of people by university in the United States? Also, as for failing 6, I agree it would be nice to have pictures of the more notable people. However, "a lack of images does not in itself prevent an article from achieving Good Article status.". I would gladly add images if ones we can appropriately claim fair use on were easy to find. Unfortunately they aren't. Would images with a fair use claim such the one on this: Image:Payton 200 011211.jpg be acceptable? I've been hanging around WP:FLC and I know fair use claims have to be rock solid before it can become featured. VegaDark 07:03, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
- (After Edit Conflict) I agree that pictures are hard to find, and it wasn't that alone that I failed it (I'll remind you that I don't have the final say with this nomination. I am not sure of procedure, but if you disagree, you can probably put it back up for nomination :) ). I think that this article doesn't fulfill (1a) at the good article criteria. I do not see 'compelling prose' when I read this. Unfortunately, lists cannot fulfill this (probably ever), as they do not 'describe facts' or 'discuss ideas' (definition of prose from here). I think that there needs to be a clearer definition on Lists being Good Articles before a nomination like this can succeed. Chuck(척뉴넘) 07:20, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
- As for the picture, the Good Article criteria probably does not have to be a stringent as those at FAC, but according to the page that the picture links to, the copyright is this (from the bottom of the NBA.com page)
- "Copyright 2006 NBA Media Ventures, LLC. All rights reserved. No portion of NBA.com may be duplicated, redistributed or manipulated in any form. By accessing any information beyond this page, you agree to abide by the NBA.com"
- So that particular picture probably wouldn't be good. (I'm not even sure that that picture would be allowed regardless of GA nomination). Chuck(척뉴넘) 07:25, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
- That particular picture was obviously a bad choice, I hadn't looked at the source to see that, I just looked at the tag. Assuming that what the tag says was accurate, are articles under that tag allowable in a list such as this? As for your other comment, I have seen several lists with the GA tag so I thought I would try before I tried to get it featured, I didn't realize that it would actually be harder to get it to GA status with the GA criteria definitions. After further review, I have decided, based on the information here (this is info for a featured list which I adapted to GA standards) and here, to promote this article to a Good Article. Chuck(척뉴넘) 08:22, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Delisted GA
This article has been removed from the GA list as it is a list and lists are not reviewed by the GA system. If you feel that this review was in error feel free to take it to WP:GA/R. Tarret 14:02, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Good Article Review
I've listed it at GAR, I don't think this should be removed simply because it is a list, lists were allowed at the time it was added as a GA. VegaDark 22:40, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
- But they aren't accepted as GAs currently. Never mind, this list looks good enough for a Featured List candidacy right now. :) Resurgent insurgent 10:09, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

- I believe if a list or article has the possibility of passing a FL/FA review than it can be listed as an "A" article. I will change it to such for now. If anyone has a valid reason for not doing so please note it here. Theophilus75 21:15, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Change to "students and alumni"?
More than a few current students are on the list. The term alumni generally refers only to those who have graduated or otherwise departed.

- Hmm, I guess that is correct. However, it doesn't go along with lists of alumni of other schools (that I have seen). Since that is technically accurate, however, feel free to move it. VegaDark 07:17, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
