[edit] List of countries by suicide rate

I am missing what additional information the OECD list provides compared to the one for all countries? At least the comprehensive list should be linked to.Bamse (talk) 09:26, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Just added List of countries by suicide rate wikilink to intro and See also section. This article was created as a way to compare rates among First World countries without using a criterion as cumbersome as List of IMF advanced economy countries by suicide rate or List of World Bank high income countries by suicide rate.

I see. That's motivated by the second paragraph in List of countries by suicide rate ? Bamse (talk) 14:27, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Yeah. The point of this list is to take away national poverty as a contributing factor for suicide. People may commit suicide for any of a variety of reasons, including personal financial hardship, but with OECD countries we at least know that living in a poor country was not a contributing factor. I chose OECD because it is a clearly defined, NPOV category-- unlike "rich countries." It is surprising and noteworthy that countries like South Korea and Japan have such high suicide rates despite their economic progress.
