[edit] Include governors-general?

Should a governor-general be included in this list? They're political, yes, but to my thinking, they're not actually politicians. I don't particularly mind one way or another, though. -- Vardion 00:02, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Either way, it may help to keep their list as at "see also". -- User:Docu

[edit] Local body politicians

At least one person listed has achieved a city mayoralty but never stood for Parliament. I don't mind leaving her there if we agree that that's a fair way to go and indicate it in the introduction. It would be unnecessarily clumsy to have a separate list, because we would then need a third list of people who have served in both capacities. Robin Patterson 02:56, 29 Jul 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Minor and obscure politicians

Recently, I've been going through the various politicians in the 1st New Zealand Parliament and making short articles about each of them. I will probably do the same for the 2nd Parliament, 3rd Parliament, and so forth. So far, I've been adding all these politicians to this list. However, I'm now realising that there will be a great many politicians added to the list by the time I'm finished, and most of them are fairly obscure. People like Loughlin O'Brien and Robert Hart, for example, are not likely to be of great interest to anyone - I wrote stubs about them merely for the sake of completeness. I would propose, therefore, that this list be regarded as a list of notable politicians, leaving Category:New Zealand politicians to serve as the full list. (Of course, we then have to decide on a defition of "notable"). Any thoughts? -- Vardion 10:13, 23 Sep 2004 (UTC)

A new category for "NZ 19th century politicians" would probably be a good way to go, too Grutness 23:49, 4 Nov 2004 (UTC)

[edit] "Robbie"'s spelling

This page lists Sir Dove-Meyer Robinson, and links to a page on Dove-Myer Robinson. I'm pretty sure this page's spelling is correct and the article name is wrong. Can someone who knows more (or is in Akld, perhaps) check? Grutness 23:47, 4 Nov 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Gregory Fortuin

Gregory Fortuin was never an MP or a local body politican. He is a former Race Relations Consolidator. Should he be removed from this list --210.86.91.61 08:08, 17 Feb 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Category?

Wouldn't this work better as a category rather than a list? --Helenalex 21:43, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

There is already a category heirarchy at Category:New Zealand politicians. I haven't checked to see how many names are in the categories but not in this list, but given the lack of recent updating of the list, I suspect there will be quite a few.
Lists have two potential advantages over categories: they can include more information than just links to articles, and they can include redlinks. See any of the lists at WP:FL for examples of good lists. This list isn't very useful at present because it fails to provide any further information about the entries; for example it does not distinguish between local-body and national politicians, or between candidates and elected politicians. It has only the advantage of including some redlinks.
If you or someone else were to go through the redlinks on the list and decide which of them clearly should have an article on Wikipedia, and transfer those names to a list of missing articles at WP:NZ, then this list would be completely unnecessary and could be nominated for deletion.-gadfium 00:53, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
