Is this the most appropriate title for this? Shouldn't it be lowercase?

I also note that the federal list is at list of Australian Commonwealth Government entities. Having them standardised would be nice, but I'm not sure which name one might use. Ambi 11:39, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

The NSW Government classes the entities in this list as "agencies". Courts and tribunals, though part of government, are not agencies and so do not appear in the list. Nor do organisations in which the NSW Govt has only a share, such as SnowyHydro. Joestella 12:17, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

I suspect that an individual area health service, or for that matter, catchment management authority would count as notable. I'm surprised that the AHSs showed up as separate agencies while the regional units of the other departments did not. The health department, or catchment management in New South Wales, are probably better candidates to become fully-fledged articles. No. Universities are established under state legislation. They are funded by the Federal government. States, territories and the Commonwealth co-ordinate their regulatory efforts. Joestella 13:33, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Dealing with NSW government agencies

On balance, it may be better to divide them by area of portfolio responsibility in the list, leave the departments and ministries in the Government of New South Wales category and use subcategories to separate them into the NSW Government's schema - "statutory bodies" and "corporations". I think I also need to come up with a consistent format for describing these organisations. The key information is:

  • Core information
  • Name
  • Kind of organisation
  • Area of portfolio responsibility
  • (note that it is part of the NSW Government)
  • Minister and CEO/Chairman/DG
  • Operational information
  • Key duties
  • Enabling/governing legislation
  • Agencies/brands/functions

[edit] Naming conventions

I'm going to bed now, the list is still only half-complete. If anyone wants to pick this up before I've finished it, note the following naming convention for the link destinations:

  • Where the organisation has NSW in the name, write as New South Wales
  • Where the organisation mentions a geographic location in New South Wales, do not add the name of the state
  • Where the organisation is a corporation, do not add the name of the state
  • Where the organisation is an "Office of" and the name does not include "New South Wales", add "(New South Wales)" to the end of the name
  • In all other cases, add "New South Wales" to the beginning of the organisation's name

For the link names, use the organisation's own preferred name - but replace "NSW" with "New South Wales" Joestella 17:20, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

Joe, sorry but I've redirected Housing Commission (NSW) to NSW Department of Housing. Where possible - official names are preferred (WP:Naming conventions (government departments and ministers - item 3, the jurisdiction name is already incorporated into the official department name). Gah! Whichever convention can you choose, can you not use the shortened NSW? This is unintelligble to anyone outside of Australia. For the same reason, nowhere else in the world on Wikipedia uses abbreviations for provinces in either article titles or articles themselves. Rebecca 06:56, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
