[edit] Redundant attributes

The Music Genome Project contains several redundant attributes, such as R&B Influences, R & B Influences, and R'n'B Influences. Should all three remain listed in the article? Ditto Symbiotic Kick and Bass and Symbiotic Kick & Bass. Quackfoot 16:30, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

I'd just merge them into one entry. --Mperry 20:44, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Use of attributes by Pandora

So does Pandora give every song on its database every relevant attribute? Or ar the same attributes given to every tack on a particular album? Or do the same attributes describe an artist's complete body of work? Anyone know? And is this the place for this info to go... should it be on the main Pandora page, or both? (01:18, 20 November 2006 (UTC))

From all of the articles I've read about Pandora I've heard that they analyze music on a song-by-song basis spending an average of 20 minutes with each song and applying the most relevant attributes to each individual song. And yes, this is the place for this info to go. Ehrik 02:29, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Style guide

To ensure consistency please note the following guidelines when adding entries:

  • Capitalize the first letter of each word excluding "a", "of", and "the" unless they are at the beginning of the line.
  • Remove any preceding indefinite articles. Examples:
    • A Minor Key Tonality (incorrect)
    • Minor Key Tonality (correct)

This will help to keep things consistent and reduce duplicate entries. --Mperry 05:33, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Are you sure that isn't referring to the key of A minor? ;) --Arperry (talk) 21:06, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Order

Good stuff! Could we order the list on something else than alphabet? Like group them together in things like "rhythm", "Tonality", "Harmony", "Arrangement", "Feel", "Influence by Style", Instrument categories etc.? Peter S. 21:26, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

No.
I think normally different orderings go on another page, such as List of Music Genome Project attributes by type Kaldosh 21:44, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

I like the idea of having various sorting and linking options other than just alphabetical. Perhaps a weighting system of some kind can be developed as well. Calicocat

[edit] This is an excellent idea

This is a great idea! :)

Don't you think that the pandora folks should allow you to choose the attributes and get songs from those attributes... what do you do if you've never heard a song before in your life? Or ever heard a song that's like a song you like? 80.47.210.165 04:29, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, that would be awesome. Has anyone suggested it to them yet...?
Note, this is already possible through a search engine like google. Add a few songs to a station after you find their titles through a search like this: site:pandora.com "attribute you like" "another attribute you like" inurl:song —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 130.85.133.99 (talk) 13:53, 7 December 2006 (UTC).
Tim Westergren has said in the Pandora get togethers that this is something they are considering. 21 February 2007

[edit] Source?

Where did you get this? --Samael775 01:44, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

When playing a song on Pandora you can choose "Why did you play this song" and it will list some of the attributes used to classify the song. The list is built by using that method. --Mperry 19:29, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Incomplete list

I'm not sure, but shouldnt the incomplete list template go at the top? (i didnt change it because im not sure) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kaldosh (talkcontribs)

The MoS says it can go before or after. I'll move it to the top. --Mperry 19:27, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Focus traits versus genes

I just attended a get together where Tim Westergren discussed Pandora. He said that the attributes we see when we click "Why did you play this song" or go backstage are not the genes used to determine song choice. What we see are broad, rolled up categories called focus traits used to explain the song choice to listeners. He said there are approximately 2,000 of these. The actual genes are very specific and include details like octave range, amount of vibrato, amount of voice ornamentation. Should we make changes to clarify this? 21 February 2007. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.166.171.241 (talk • contribs)

I don't think we should since we, as users, have no way to view those "genes". I think we should just stick with the ones we have. --Mperry 05:20, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
