[edit] Deleting the entries in the list
Hello Nick Graves. I am undoing you last edit. Before you delete a large chunk of a list you must at least have courtesy to verify the notability yourself. Just take for example, a typical case of "Lakshmi Gopalaswamy". Before deleting you did not assert the notability of this individual either by a search in the Google [1] or seeing the IMDB profile. She is notable in more than one ways. This is the case with all the listed individuals. If sources are not provided try to provide it. Do not delete it. That is what is good faith editing. If you wish, you may also check up independently with any of the Malayali Wikipedians (see Category:Kerala Wikipedians) in case of any doubt in notability of the listed individuals. --Salih (talk) 04:21, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
- Please read WP:V: "Editors should provide a reliable source for quotations and for any material that is challenged or is likely to be challenged, or it may be removed." I am challenging the names that do not yet have articles. I am not convinced that they are notable enough to warrant inclusion. The onus is not on me to prove they are not notable. The onus is on those who want to include the names to prove they are notable. At the very least, a reliable source which gives signficant coverage of the actor in question ought to be provided in the entry. IMDb is not a reliable source. They let anyone contribute information. They do not have sufficient editorial oversight.
- Also read Wikipedia:Lists (stand-alone lists): "Ideally each entry on a list should have its own Wikipedia article but this is not required if it is reasonable to expect an article could be forthcoming in the future." It is only reasonable to expect an article will be forthcoming in the future if someone can cite at least one reliable source that gives signficant coverage of the actor in question. - Well. If you expect every list entry should have its on Wikipedia article, then Categories can very well take the place of lists.
- Also, in most of the list articles in Wikipedia one can see many red links. Why don't you delete all those list entries and clean up the Wikipedia. For example, see List of Indian film actors. There are hundreds of list article like that. If you are not interested in cleaning up those articles, I will have to assume that you are particularly hostile towards this artcle. --Salih (talk) 15:17, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

- To your first point: Not so. Lists can provide brief biographic blurbs, pictures, or other features that cannot be replicated in categories. This list could be improved in that way. Just because there are hundreds of other crappy lists out there where no one has taken the care to support the information listed doesn't mean this one has to. Can't you find any sources supporting the notability of these people you want to include? If they are notable, certainly there is at least one reliable source out there that can be cited for each person. Nick Graves (talk) 02:50, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

- It is almost impossible to find a single source which takes care of all the list items.

- I must say that your edit is somewhat destructive. I believe that you have no knowledge of the content in the list. People usually remove the content form an article if they are convinced that the content is false or violate the wikipedia rules and policies. You are not in a position to say that the content is false. On the other hand, if you want to edit the article constructively you try to provide the source. Or delete the listed person if proved non-notable. Otherwise why don't you just leave the article alone? I will do my best to provide the source in due course of time. Be patient until then.

- Another thing is that I am an editor who knows very well about the Malayalam cinema and its actors. Trust me I don't include any non-notable actors in this list. Just because some of them does not have a Wikipedia article doesn't mean that they are non-notable. Also, I don't normally edit an article whose content is alien to me. Check my history and trust me. --Salih (talk) 15:35, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
