[edit] Rename article

Here's an idea I've been batting around in my head for a while that I was hoping to get some input fr om other editors. What does everyone think about moving this article to "List of Kingdom Hearts media", or something named to that effect? Honestly, I don't see this article making it past a lengthy list and it will probably remain a start article as a manga article. Most of the necessary information to advance this further is probably in Japanese, and we may never come across it. Also with the novels being released in Japan and coming to the US, there's additional information there. Of course the games would have be mentioned too, but the content for those would be minimal given the nature of lists. Any thoughts? (Guyinblack25 talk 15:27, 20 July 2007 (UTC))

I've created a test page of what the new article could look like in my sandbox. Comments and suggestions would be appreciated. (Guyinblack25 talk 15:08, 6 August 2007 (UTC))
I like this idea. Instead of a bunch of sparse articles for each media, we'd have a beefier, singular article. It'd make the entire thing seem more impressive, too. ' 23:18, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Too complicated

Anyone thinks this format of table is too complicated? The headings are stuck on the top and are totally separated from the relevant rows, and it becomes difficult to read the tables without scrolling up and down everytime. Plus the "Volume" column is a little bit unnecessary; it could be simply be merged with the title column. Kariteh 08:12, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Also, will all these cover pictures be kept? I think the FF covers were removed from List of Final Fantasy titles because they were too numerous to meet the Fair-Use criteria or something. Kariteh 08:16, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
I think it's okay; there doesn't seem to be any good solution anyway. I agree with the volume thing though. As for the images, keep 'em until someone starts complaining. Heck, list of FF titles passed FA with all its images. Axem Titanium 14:20, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
Having headers visible when working with tables is always a problem, no real way around it without shrinking the table to be too small. But I think it'll be ok here. The tables have a small enough amount of rows that I think it won't be a problem. You're right about the "Volume" column, now that I look at it it does seem a bit off. We'll play around with the placement of it, maybe in the "Notes" sections.
I didn't even think about the number of images for this list. Most of them may have to be removed, especially if we're going for FL. If Kariteh mentioned it, you know someone else will mention in the nomination process. Here's a thought, keep the game images, and maybe the album images (that'd be 7 images). Remove the manga and novel images (sorry Apostrophe, I'm sure you spent a lot of time uploading those last night), and place one cover image of the manga and novel in the right corner of their respective sections (that would be a total of 9 images). Any thoughts? (Guyinblack25 talk 15:11, 7 August 2007 (UTC))
Here's an example of what I was talking about. I replaced the cover column for the manga and novel tables with the volume column, and placed a single image at the beginning of the sections. I picked the KHII novel image because that's the only one we have for the novels right now. (Guyinblack25 talk 20:29, 7 August 2007 (UTC))
That looks good. Axem Titanium 21:23, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, looks fine. Just another question: should it be mentioned that the manga was released in German too?[1] This is the English Wikipedia so we don't need to put the German title translations, but perhaps it should still be mentioned in the paragraph before the tables that it was released in German (this could add to its notability). Finding good sources for that might be difficult though; I wonder if the other media have been released in other languages too. Kariteh 21:47, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
I'm not sure how significant that is. Many manga are released in German (and French and Spanish, etc.). Maybe a line to the effect of "it has been released in # languages" or something, if you feel it's notable enough. Axem Titanium 21:54, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Just a little house keeping question regarding the left over images, should we tag them for speedy deletion? (Guyinblack25 talk 22:16, 7 August 2007 (UTC))

If you feel like you'll never use them again. They will be tagged by bots and deleted eventually either way. Axem Titanium 01:16, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Article Rating

I've never worked on a list like this before, so a few questions.

  1. Do we go through the same process as the regular articles as far as nominating for GA?
  2. If not, does that mean we are suppose to go straight for FL?
  3. Does everyone think it's in a good enough state to proceed towards some kind of higher rating?

(Guyinblack25 talk 18:49, 8 August 2007 (UTC))

Wow, you really trucked this one through. I'm not sure if peer review applies to lists but I don't think GA does. Try nominating it for FL sometime and you'll probably get more feedback. I'll be copyediting this too in the meantime. Axem Titanium 19:43, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
Where should we get a peer review? I was thinking of getting a generic review but that has a pretty lengthy backlog. Would the Video game or Anime and manga project be a better place to go? Any thoughts? (Guyinblack25 talk 22:21, 9 August 2007 (UTC))
WP:Anime has a fair number of featured lists so it might be a good idea to ask for a review there. Axem Titanium 22:29, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
The Anime project uses the main peer review but also adds the anime/manga peer reviews on their page. So it's listed on those two and I went ahead and added it the Video game peer review page too. On three pages it should hopefully get enough feedback (Guyinblack25 talk 23:10, 9 August 2007 (UTC))
You know guy, the list already seems so advanced that perhaps just a list nomination would be appropriate. Judgesurreal777 01:52, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I think you can go ahead and nominate if for FL, I've done what I can. Axem Titanium 01:09, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Announced games

Do we add the three new games to the list or wait until they're released? ' 20:43, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

I guess waiting never hurt anyone. I'm not sure, but I think they don't technically have to be added until they are first released (although that never stopped any anon editor). Axem Titanium 21:41, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
There's no guideline on this. You can add it or leave it. There's nothing wrong if you add them and explain clearly that they're unreleased. Kariteh 11:51, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
I agree with Kariteh, I see no harm in adding them now or waiting. The only positive I can see to adding them sooner rather than later is that we can make sure they are added properly. (Guyinblack25 talk 12:27, 21 September 2007 (UTC))
Besides, it's not like we're ever going to remove them or something. Even if the games are cancelled, they would still be mentioned on this page in one form or another. Kariteh 12:29, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

Something that just occurred to me, should we have the games arranged in chronologically by date of release? If so, we'll have to move the KH VCAST. It was originally put at the bottom because it's not really considered canon. With the new games should it stay at the bottom or be reordered? Any thoughts? (Guyinblack25 talk 15:31, 21 September 2007 (UTC))

I'd put it all in release order. (The new games should be put last, in alphabetic order, since they have no release dates yet.) ' 17:53, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ultimania

I just added the Ultimania books and Another Report to a new section of the list. No refs, ISBNs, and still pretty short. I think it's a legitimate section though. Axem Titanium 16:21, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

By the way, how "official" is BradyGames' "Official Strategy Guide"? Does BradyGames have a deal with SE or something? Axem Titanium 19:33, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
Don't know, but as far as I can tell, there aren't any other game guides sold for the games in the US other than the BradyGames ones. They're the only ones I've seen at bookstores like Borders and Barnes & Nobles, and at game stores/departments. If there are no objections, I was planning on adding the other Brady guides as well. (Guyinblack25 talk 19:49, 23 September 2007 (UTC))
It looks like the only one on the market. I read somewhere that they sign exclusivity deals for some games but I don't remember where I read it or if it was referring to KH. Axem Titanium 20:01, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
Here are scans of Another Report. Page 64 might have the ISBN for it, but I'm not sure. Is it "03-5333-1860"? It's not the same format as the other ISBNs... Axem Titanium 20:21, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
I googled those two 10 digit numbers to see what I could find, unfortunately, they're telephone numbers. Maybe we can try posting on the boards of KH3.net or some other fan site and see if they can tell us the ISBN. Don't know how reliable that'd be, but I couldn't find it on amazon.co.jp and I'm not sure were else to check. (Guyinblack25 talk 20:43, 23 September 2007 (UTC))

Another thought, how should the books be organized? Should we split the Japanese and North American books. Right now it's organized by date, but it looks a bit weird to me. That may be because I personally just see them separate. What do you guys think? (Guyinblack25 talk 21:29, 23 September 2007 (UTC))

Either is fine. If you like separate, go for it. Your position has merits. Axem Titanium 21:45, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] First Door and Darkness Within US dates

Confirmed from chatpers.indigo.ca (or amazon if you're not in Canada...) : March 25th, 2008 for both. I don't know how to edit tables, I tried, but I hope someone will notice this topic and change it. I hope I was of some help. Zemalia 05:45, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Cool, I'll look into it to get the reference. Thanks for the heads up. (Guyinblack25 talk 13:02, 1 October 2007 (UTC))

[edit] Merging Kingdom Hearts Trading Card Game

I guess technically this would be the best place to merge Kingdom Hearts Trading Card Game. I saw that article a while ago and didn't really know what to make of it. I guess my main concern would be that merging it might attract a list of game cards, but that really isn't a reason in opposition of merging. The other concern would be where in the list to put it. Here's one idea for organization.
1 Games
 1.1 Video games
 1.2 Collectible card game
2 Soundtracks
3 Literature
 3.1 Manga
 3.2 Novels
 3.3 Companion books

Any thoughts? (Guyinblack25 talk 20:22, 6 November 2007 (UTC))

Perhaps "Printed media" instead of "Literature"? Axem Titanium 20:56, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
Sounds good. Also what about limiting the ToC to exclude the specific manga and novel series? (Guyinblack25 talk 21:02, 6 November 2007 (UTC))
Good idea as well. Axem Titanium 21:51, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
Cool. I guess let's wait for maybe a day to see if anybody has any other ideas or objections and we'll merge them. In the meantime, I'll add the "Print media" heading and ToC. (Guyinblack25 talk 22:15, 6 November 2007 (UTC))

Added the collectable cardgame info box. Every CCG on wikipedia has one. 213.133.47.245 08:33, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

Most every manga article has a anime/manga infobox, but there isn't one on this list because of the unnecessary length it adds to the list. Because of the nature of this list, it gives brief overviews in the prose rather than in infoboxes. You see them in most CCG articles because they are articles. You don't see them in say, List of collectible card games, because it is a list like this one. Sorry, but I don't really see how adding it will improve the list. (Guyinblack25 talk 14:51, 12 November 2007 (UTC))

Well, in that case, merging the TCG into this article was a bad idea. 77.248.89.14 18:31, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

The same thing happened with the Kingdom Hearts manga. There wasn't enough content about the development and reception to make it past Start or B-class. Just because something exists doesn't mean there should be an encyclopedic article about it. We still have to meet Wikipedia's guidelines and policies. Merging it helped make the current list more comprehensive and allows the content to remain on Wikipedia. (Guyinblack25 talk 18:55, 12 November 2007 (UTC))
Well said. This is true, especially considering KHTCG is nowhere near the behemoth of Magic or Pokemon (ie, threshold of standalone notability). Axem Titanium 02:29, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
