[edit] Fair use image removal

I have removed all or a majority of the fair use images on this page as their use was not in line with our Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria policy (likely in that the use is not minimal (3.a.) and it is in a list or a gallery (8.)) or our Wikipedia:Non-free content guideline that states that cover images may only be used for critical commentary on the cover itself, not just identification. Please do not re-add them without discussion. Kotepho 08:52, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

-I was going to fight against this but I just noticed that you are removing these images from every single web site with them. Personally I think that in a guide of a comic, you need to see the images that connect you with it. But if its against Wikipedia all of a sudden to use them to guide a comic, then I can't say anything to stop it. -StrangerAtaru 13:09, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Since Wikipedia is trying to make a freely licensed encyclopedia the use of non-free (fair use and others) media and images detracts from the reuse of Wikipedia content, so their use is strictly regulated. Many of the Wikipedias (in other languages) do not allow non-free content at all and some do not even allow you to upload images, relying solely on Wikimedia Commons which is a repository of free media. The problem I see is that there are a lot of things out there where you can't get a free, common image and you have to use something that is copywritten. But I guess if you use a limited number, it may work better than completely spamming the page with these copywritten images. But in the case of manga covers, at least one or two have to be allowed to at least show as an example of said image. -StrangerAtaru 14:06, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
As I said before, many Wikipedias do get along fine without fair use images at all. Here, you are certainly allowed to use them in many cases (even Hell Teacher Nūbē has one), but in a page like this there is no text that needs to be illustrated to be understood (it is a list of titles and release dates). Contrast this with Batman which has several images that illustrate specific points of the text and the article really would be significantly weakened without them. Kotepho 14:23, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
