[edit] Todo
Accedentally made an article instead of a sub-page first.. Oops. Oh well. →Cyclone1→ 16:11, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, come on! Gotta be more than a stub. →Cyclone1→ 02:27, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- You're still missing some storms. This article should list every tropical cyclone that effected the state of Hawaii. Hurricanehink (talk) 02:39, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
There, got them all, I think. I'll try to add more pics tomorrow, too sleepy now. →Cyclone1→ 04:10, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- It looks like you got most of them. Start class now. Now, more detail is needed. --Hurricanehink (talk) 12:35, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- Ok. →Cyclone1→ 13:52, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- How's it look now? →Cyclone1→ 17:23, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
- Pretty good, but more is needed :) You should consider using those links I gave to you a while back. A Modern Repeats section could include the estimates for how much damage an Iniki-type storm would do to Oahu ($14 to $24 billion- potentially 3rd costliest U.S. hurricane of all time) as opposed to an Iwa-type storm $4.5 to $7.5 billion, still more than Iniki). Also, were there any storms since Iniki that had a potential for a significant Hawaiian impact? Iniki and Iwa should be given more weight in the article, as they are Hawaii's most important hurricanes. Damage pictures would be nice. Also, some places are a little short on detail. Year USD amounts are needed ($2 million 1986 USD for Estelle, for example). Always indicate which island was effected. Finally, a summary would be nice at the bottom, showing the number of storms that effected each island as well as Hawaii impacts by month. --Hurricanehink (talk) 18:08, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Ok. →Cyclone1→ 00:46, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
- Alright, I made kind of a first draft. I know it's really not that good, I would make it better but I can't, because I'm leaving and will be computerless for about a week. →Cyclone1→ 01:47, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Modern Repeats
OK, Chacor took that out, but I think that such information is encyclopedic and could go in the lead. It is important that an Iniki type storm hitting today would cause X billion dollars. If not in the lead, then maybe in the Iniki section in the article. --Hurricanehink (talk) 12:36, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- I took it out because a lot of the text was speculative, like "other examples COULD", or "Storm X COULD HAVE"... that is simply not right for an encyclopedia, to speculate about previous events that have not developed. Chacor 14:20, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- You're completely right about taking out the "Storm X could have"s. However, there was information regarding if Iniki or Iwa struck today, which I thought was interesting and appropriate for this article. --Hurricanehink (talk) 17:52, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Other sections
Storms by month, Deaths. Should scetions like those be added? like in SA canes and in Delaware canes? →Cyclone1→ 17:36, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
There's the track image...--Nilfanion (talk) 15:20, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Cleanup
Grammar, wikification (mph etc), minor spelling issues, need better refs (preferably cite web), metrification. Chacor 15:55, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
- Metrification: Should be rounded to nearest five for all windspeeds and distances, don't round off gusts or anything else (like rainfall). Chacor 16:20, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
- Umm, you said wind speeds should be rounded, but you said gusts should not be rounded. Isn't a gust a wind speed??? Sorry about the edit summary, it got into an edit conflict. RaNdOm26 16:58, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
- Sustained winds are usually averages ("1-minute average", "10-minute average"), but gusts are definite. The cites should preferably capitalise "Hurricane Center". And apology is accepted, I'll just ignore it as a minor incident. No problem. Chacor 17:00, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
- But I don't see any sustained winds. And what spelling issues are there to fix? RaNdOm26 17:17, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
- There are minor typoes, and there's things like "60 miles (96 km)". Some knot-to-mph and km/h conversions are missing. Stuff like "36mph (58 km/h)" need an additional space between the number and the unit, etc. Chacor 01:36, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

- OK, so what is & n b s p ; ? Is it the right way to put in a space? RaNdOm26 08:05, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] To do list
I am interested to get this article to B-Class. Could anyone please tell me what things are needed in the article to get there. And what can I do so that the clean-up tag can disappear?????? RaNdOm26 08:05, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
- If you have addressed all the issues raised by Chacor above, be bold and remove the cleanup tag yourself.--Nilfanion (talk) 09:56, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Todo, again
I upped it to B class, but there's still some things to be done if this is to be a Featured List Candidate (which it could be). A climatology section could be good. That section could include why hurricanes in Hawaii are so rare. Despite what was said above, I think that info from the modern repeats section could be there. I think estimates for how much damage for what Iniki could do today is very encyclopediac and interesting, though it needs to be worded carefully. It should get another run through to make sure every storm is listed. I spot two storms already that aren't here (TD 1-C from 1994 and Ignacio from 1985). Unfortunately, that means that the NHC archives, CPHC archives, and the newspaper archive might need to be checked again. Hurricanehink (talk) 01:43, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. I'll get on that. →Cyclone1→ 01:50, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
- Hello. May I point out that speculation of events is inappropriate in Wikipedia because it does not follow WP:CRYSTAL. It says clearly that "extrapolation, speculation, and "future history" are original research and therefore inappropriate." I do not support including modern repeats being included unless a reliable source can be verified. RaNdOm26 05:01, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
- I agree with the general principle that it could be included, but I am strongly opposed to it if it isn't adequately sourced. – Chacor 05:06, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, the link I provided was for back in 1993. However, the site still has interesting statistics regarding if an Iniki or Iwa type storm hit each of the islands. The link I'm referring to is this one. Hurricanehink (talk) 05:12, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Here is a page including some wave information from hurricanes. Here has a lot of Hawaii hurricanes. Hurricanehink (talk) 15:32, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Update
Prose and statistics need to be updated for 2006 (Daniel and 04C) and 2007 (Flossie). – Chacor 06:37, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] The graph
The graph in "Listed_by_month" confuses me. Is it supposed to match the table to the right? They both have the same label; "number of [recorded] storms affecting Hawaii", however the numbers are not the same. What is this supposed to be? -- RattleMan 09:34, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
