[edit] SQL 'incantations'
The 'SQL incantations' were discussed in the main article'stalk page. And while I was the one who brought the link, etc up, I'm not sure if that is enough evidence to justify calling it fact, not speculation. I just thought it ought to be pointed out. Mekryd 14:56, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Kyon's meaning?
Is it true that "Kyon" means "nobody"?—Preceding unsigned comment added by User:Mightyfastpig (talk • contribs)
This is not true. "Kyon" is just a nickname. While 虚 (kyo) can mean emptiness, there is no connection.
So what does it mean?--Mightyfastpig 03:21, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
Well it's just a nickname! As a native speaker of ja I don't see any meaning to it whatsoever. --朝彦 (Asahiko) 06:27, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
Nicknames usually have some meaning: a contraction of a regular name, a pop culture figure, a descriptive trait, etc. Is Kyon just a nonsense word, instead? --Mightyfastpig 03:33, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
- AFAIK it looks like a contraction of a regular name, but since Tanigawa, the author, is keeping his silence on this matter, there's nothing we know for sure. E.g., he is quoted as saying that he has not thought about Kyon's real name, in the official fanbook. --朝彦 (Asahiko) 13:38, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Live action
I was wondering if it would be okay to credit the actresses who played Haruhi, Yuki, and Mikuru in the live action previews for the R1 release on this page?
- There's a live-action? Weird0 10:51, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
Is in it just a fan-film project? -- Psi edit 11:19, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
- It's not fanmade. Bandai created it to look that way. See Viral marketing. I don't see anything wrong with making the note.--十八 11:41, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
Is this the same thing as "The Melancholy of Harihu (sic) Suzumiya", which you could find on Youtube in early March '07? It was a live-action video with obviously adult actors playing the characters. I can't tell if it was a porn/parody or a kind of video doujinshi. --Mightyfastpig 18:18, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
- It's not. The Hahiru video was a porn/parody, and the version on YouTube was editted to remove the porn parts. Jeomaxxters 17:51, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Mikuru as Kyon's sister
Can anyone verify this? KyuuA4 20:45, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
- Mikuru is not Kyon's sister; I'm 100% positive.--十八 21:30, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
- Take my word. I hope that is the case; personally, I'd lose my mind if Mikuru = Kyon's sister. As thankfully, any such notion of Kyon's sister being Mikuru is speculation and rumor. KyuuA4 18:28, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] split
This article is getting over 32kB, and several sections (the SOS members) are fairly long. So the main characters should be split off into individual article pages, with stub summaries here on this list. Afterall, ENOZ has its own page. 70.55.88.125 15:47, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Split off:
- Haruhi Suzumiya (character) (this name because Haruhi Suzumiya is a dab page)
- Yuki Nagato
- Mikuru Asahina
- Itsuki Koizumi
- Kyon
[edit] Discussion
- Agree. In fact, other anime series have individual character pages. Furthermore, this can give extra room for more info. Also, a character summary must be made for the main character listing. KyuuA4 18:48, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
- Support I have no doubt that the character articles can quickly become self supporting. So long as we make sure to keep minor characters from getting splits as well.--SeizureDog 10:03, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
- Disagree the reason this list article is so long is because it has a large amount of needless plot summary. If we split the articles then we'll get even more plot summary. -- Ned Scott 01:07, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
- Support With already 9 books, and still more to come, it's very unlikely that the article will get any shorter. Anyway, we'll be able to give more details to the main characters -- Skoban 16:53, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
- Support The current sections are very large for character biographies on a single page, suggesting that a split at this size is natural.--Seth Turner 13:04, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- Comment If a split were to occur, might I suggest the creation of a character infobox. I'll do it if no one else does.--十八 13:13, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- Note. Haruhi Suzumiya as a Disambiguation page is un-necessary as they point to the different media forms - which ALL relate to Haruhi Suzumiya. This is different from the Haruhi Disambiguation page, which actually contains references of "Haruhi" outside of this series. And if anyone doesn't mind, the character splitting shall commence! >:D KyuuA4 06:28, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
Alright, again I would like to note that this split is pre-mature. From WP:FICT: "If an encyclopedic treatment of such a character causes the article on the work itself to become long, then that character can be given a separate article."
I recall on the talk page of WP:FICT where we specifically wanted to close this very kind of loop hole. Just because you have a lot of data does not mean you have enough for a character article split. Cut the fat first, then we might be on to something. -- Ned Scott 06:46, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- Alright.. split them.. but we MUST make these articles more than just summary. -- Ned Scott 06:52, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- More like this article: Data (Star Trek). KyuuA4 07:26, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- Indeed. That'll require a bit of clean up; and that's a more do-able (and easier) task with greater emphasis on reorganization. Dividing into article subsections. Cut of wordiness, etc. And maybe add more necessary... stuff. KyuuA4 07:21, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- Comment: When split i think separate sections for anime and book plots are in order (The book section taking up from where the anime left off). So that people who have seen the anime can have a clear spoiler cut of point and more information, speculation ect can be added to increase the value of the pages. Seperate sections about personality and character interactions could also flesh this out --Seth Turner 00:08, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
- I think it would not be premature to split because of the popularity of Haruhi Suzumiya. Consider all those youtube dances... (or the CUHK Haruhi Dance Competition). Aside from this, there is the fact that American TV shows have less popular and more minor characters with articles of exterme lengths. (or even characters who just are cameo appearances) --Zyxwvutsrqp 13:46, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- That doesn't necessarily mean there will be enough encyclopedic information to warrant an article split.. but.. maybe it's the fanboy in me.. I started to think about it and I think we probably can find enough encyclopedic info for these characters. I mean.. it's one hell of a series. -- Ned Scott 03:21, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] About Needless Plot Summary
In regards to that, then some material can be purged. Only to make room for more significant information. Plus, it'll allow division of the information into subsections, thus making them more "focused". Better descriptions on Character Personalities, History, Roles, etc. When having character pages, it is best to compare with some already existing anime character pages. Namely: Belldandy, and two featured articles who happen to be Pokemon: Bulbasaur and Torchic. KyuuA4 18:38, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Title
Any reason why this article can't be List of characters in the Haruhi Suzumiya series?--SeizureDog 10:05, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
- No reason at all. At the time I created this article, there were several possibilities I gave to the community on the main article's talk page, but not a single person responded in over a week, so I just went with the one I thought best at the time. Of course, this title never occurred to me, but it seems better, so you can change it.--十八 14:31, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] mergefrom ENOZ
ENOZ was redirected here by Ned Scott without merging, so I reverted the redirect and added merge tags instead, as theres useful info there thats not here. --Zyxwvutsrqp 13:42, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- I'll perform the merger like I did when the page was first made. If anyone objects, bring it up here.--十八 17:27, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Taken from the ENOZ merger
[edit] Hrm?
An article specifically on ENOZ? It doesn't really seem to need its own... Wasn't there a section in the Character list for it? If it's to be kept, should the reference to ZONE be mentioned? Should it be added to the Haruhi template? Mekryd 17:41, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
- I am personally against the creation of this seperate article, but ThePointman was very adament about adding to this page even after I merged it with the characters article.--(十八|talk) 02:40, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
- Is it possible for a redirect article to have its own categories, I wonder? Mekryd 03:00, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
- If it was to be a redirct, then no, it probably shouldn't; what are you getting at anyway? It seems that this article is to be kept. Seeing as there is even a Japanese wiki article on the same thing...--(十八|talk) 03:14, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
- Well, from your talk page, it looked as if the main reason for him to keep it there was to have it listed under fictional bands (I swear that I am not stalkerish). I was thinking that we could have it redirect and keep it under the category, somehow. Er... yeah. Well, moving on from that... Should this article be added to the template? I'm going to go ahead and add the template itself, now. Mekryd 04:11, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] God Knows
Um, I don't believe the full version is played in the anime. I just received the single in the mail and the song seems at least twice as long as the anime version. Kyaa the Catlord 13:43, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Playboy bunny outfit
I changed the term "Playboy bunny costume" to "bunny girl costume." I did this because in Japan, unlike in America, bunny costumes are no longer strictly associated with Playboy bunny costumes. Rather, they tend to be a general sexy costume, similar to a French maid or fishnet stockings. If anyone objects, feel free to change it back. 74.140.92.81 05:54, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I had considered making that change myself since the image of a playboy bunny is more American than Japanese. Every loves the bunny girl though! Kyaa the Catlord 13:39, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] redirect to List of characters in the Haruhi Suzumiya series
redirecting without merging lost the band member list and other info... It should probably be merged into the list. --Zyxwvutsrqp 13:39, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Taniguchi and Kunikida
Shouldn't these two be separated instead of paired? I know that they appear most of the time together, but they don't always... 132.205.44.134 23:24, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
- The problem is that there's so little on them already, there's the fact that they are almost always seen together, and the picture supplied even has them together. I guess we could split them up, but I don't see a reason why we should.--十八 23:40, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
- Can anything be added by spliting the pages or would they just be duplicates of each other with names reversed? I think they should stay merged for now.--Seth Turner 00:11, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Is WP prejudiced?
I mean, removing Mexican voice actor credits and saying "fabrication"? I think the Wikipedia hates Mexico because of illegal immigration! I suspected the same thing around a lot of the voice actor pages. I think prejudice among users is becoming rampant due to the issue of illegal immigration. That's just my opinion, and everyone's entitled. But seriously, who agrees that there are traitors among us in league with the Border Patrol in Mexico (the real reason why Mexican information is being taken off all too quickly)? --Ryanasaurus0077 19:08, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- I didn't think the series was licensed yet in Mexico, which is why I suspected the information to be false. I could be wrong on that, but if so, could you please provide a source for your information? --EmperorBrandon 19:52, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- Now now, please try to be civil in your discussions. I saw that a user (EmperorBrandon?) removed the mexican voice actors for a lack of source. I had seen that the voices were listed at the ANN page at one point, but it seems they have been removed from there as well, most likely because from what I remember, no mexican licensing company was listed along with the voices. If you do not have a source, then we can only assume fabrication at this point.--十八 20:15, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- I pointed them out on ANN, since they listed this Wikipedia page as a source and I was a bit skeptical. I don't have anything against Latin American voice actors being listed on this page, as long as the information is true. --EmperorBrandon 20:41, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- You know, I know tons more about the voices than the companies that license these dubs. --Ryanasaurus0077 21:18, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- Just so you know, anything you provide at this point without citing sources will be deemed original research and will be removed.--十八 21:25, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Character VS. Personality
"The title character and leader of the SOS Brigade. Her energetic and eccentric character proves to be a driving force for the series." I believe that "character" should instead be "personality". I would also like to note a trend in anime discussions where "character" and "personality" are mixed. Partymetroid 21:19, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Kyon's sister
I've been reading Suzumiya Haruhi Volume 5 : Snow Mountain Syndrome, and I came along an interesting statement.
"Let's do this! I will train Mikuru, Imouto-chan will go with Haruhi-nyan. As for Kyon-kun and the rest, think of something on your own." Tsuruya-san's proposal could not have come at a better time. I needed some time to get used to the feel of being on skis. As I gave a passing glance off to the side... "..." The absolutely emotionless Nagato, with poles in hands, had already taken off smoothly. In the end, my sister didn't learn anything. Was Haruhi's teaching method flawed?
Is Imouto a name like onii-chan (Older Brother), or is it her name? Sbloemeke 15:29, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- Imouto means little sister. Her name is not known, just like Kyon's actual name. --Wirbelwindヴィルヴェルヴィント (talk) 18:36, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Ryoko?
What about Ryoko from the anime? Appears in Ep 10 in Arch order. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vonturn Runesworth (talk • contribs) 17:18, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] New characters in book 9
someone should add information about the following characters:
Tachibana Kyouko
Suou Kuyou
Sasaki
- I placed a group image to identify. Fox816 20:32, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Emphasis
Why does each minor character in the "Schoolmates" section get roughly ten times the amount of coverage given to the main characters in the "SOS Brigade members" section? 67.158.75.7 (talk) 03:22, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
