To-do list for List of Florida State University alumni:

Here are some tasks you can do:

    [edit] Notability

Why do a large number of people on this list not have articles on Wikipedia? Wikipedia not an indiscriminate collection of facts, and as such should not just list everyone who ever went to a college and now get paid more than $200000 per year. Evil Monkey - Hello 10:41, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Please do not remove comments from this page. The purpose of a Wikipedia talk page is to provide space for editors to discuss changes to its associated article or project page. And that is what I am doing. I think that a large number of the people on this list should not be there unless they are notable per Wikipedia's notability criteria. Evil Monkey - Hello 21:38, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
I agree, i am deleting all those who do not have articles. These same listed people are usually either insignificant or ceo of a small insignificant company which doesnt belong on wikipedia LightSpeed3 (talk) 04:01, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
While an individual may not meet notability standards for themselves, as a list of quality alumni, it is important to show when alumni hold important positions within notable organizations. Mschnippert (talk) 14:57, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
Lightspeed is deleting quality people. Perhaps some business executives do not belong, however this user is deleting Provosts, Academic Administrators, and other very notable people. I personally believe that Lightspeed is from another University in the State University System of Florida, and is trying to degrade FSU's alumni & accomplishments. jccort 21:21, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

    [edit] Notability?

This is getting to be a fairly lengthy article, and contains a lot of not very familiar names. Particularly noticeable are the many names of individuals who have either not proven to be sufficiently notable to have articles, or for whom no citations have been provided to justify their inclusion. Without one or the other showing that the names belong on this list, the resulting article begins to lack credibility. I propose deleting this sort of name. Any comments? Before you start deleting people, we should come to a consensus about who should, and should not be deleted. I have worked extremely hard on this list (and have great sources to back up my work). I want to make sure that we recognize the notable FSU Alumni who have graduated from this institution. I would also like to add that I have not created these articles for some of the alumni yet and this is because I have been extremely busy with my studies. However, it is my intention to created the necessary articles in the near future. Jccort (talk) 11:56, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
No problem. I'm not in a hurry. But the point is, there needs to be some showing that the individuals really belong here. The problem is taken care of if the person has an article in Wikipedia. If not, there needs to be some sort of independent third party reference attesting to the individual's achievements and connection with FSU. As things stand, I could probably insert "Tim Ross famous editor" and get away with it. You might wish to take a look at how things have been done for the notable residents section of Tallahassee, Florida - especially the olympians who have no Wikipedia articles. (And thanks, by the way, for all of your hard work on the list!) Tim Ross (talk) 13:29, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
I have an idea - Why don't you do an initial purge list of the Alumni that you do not feel even deserve to have articles crafted for them. Then present this list to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Florida State University Members, and we will deliberate as a group who should be cut from those who you have initially selected. How does this sound? Jccort (talk) 14:56, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, actually, it's not really an issue involving opinions. I certainly don't have sufficient personal knowledge to divide the list meaningfully into wheat and chaff. Fortunately, Wikipedia has a good handle on the issue of notability (Wikipedia:Notability (people)), and this is applied rather carefully to each biographic article. If someone has an article, that's an excellent showing of notability. If they don't, then the individual wishing to claim that status for a new listing is responsible for providing a reliable third party source, documenting the notability. In theory, at least, this isn't optional, as sources are required for such "facts" (Wikipedia:Verifiability). Tim Ross (talk) 23:08, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
I have no interest in doing any wholesale deleting of names from the FSU list, Jccort. For alumni without articles, though, perhaps you will be willing to provide me a list of the names you added and the refs you used. I'll be happy to edit as needed on that basis. Thanks. [edit] Florida District Courts of Appeal judges

Under the "Law" heading we have 9 current or former Florida District Courts of Appeal judges listed. None of them have articles, and most of them are unlikely to be able to pass WP:Notability. Comments anyone? Tim Ross (talk) 00:35, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
