[edit] List of Detective Encyclopedia

Sense this was moved here awhile back, I'd like to just list them all. As of now they are all split up. This list is here for reference only. The list is :

[edit] To do

I've recently been doing a lot of cleanup, expansion, and sourcing for this page, but there's still a lot of work to be done:

  • The lead needs to be tightened up and possibly expanded some.
  • Images will probably be removed for the most part, since in its current state, this article *might* qualify as an image gallery (see also WP:IUP#Photo galleries)
  • Volume titles need to be confirmed or added. If volumes are actually unnamed, this needs to be noted, and existing volume titles should be removed from the list.
  • Detective profiles should be confirmed and added, along with any other special features in each volume.
  • ISBN number formats should be confirmed - I'm not sure of the exact hyphenation, so someone more knowledgeable should have a look and see if any need to be fixed.
  • Romaji chapter titles need to be added for pretty much everything, English chapter titles need to be confirmed for those chapters that have had an official English release, and properly translated for those that are unreleased.
    • Kanji chapter titles should be found for volumes 25 and 30.
    • The chapter list for volume 29 needs to be corrected - the source lists eleven chapters, but this list has twelve.
  • Summaries need to be added and cleaned up. Good summaries...
    • are between 300 and 500 words, or one paragraph, in length.
    • cover all major plot points without going into excessive detail. Per WP:SPOILER, spoilers should *not* be avoided.
    • do not ask questions. Summaries are just that, summaries, and should not require the reader to read the volume to find answers.
  • General cleanup - grammer, spelling, punctuation, etc.
  • Sources, sources, sources.

This isn't a complete list, if you have anything to add, please do. —Dinoguy1000 19:56, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

I think the images can stay. It's not a photo gallery, sense we explain each and every manga there is. If all we did was post the pictures, then yes it would be a photo gallery. - Prede (talk) 20:18, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
The reason I mentioned the possibility of removing most of the images is that I haven't seen any other chapter lists that have had a good once-over that have a cover image from each volume. I'm not saying this list *can't*, but I am working off of precedence. —Dinoguy1000 14:42, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

If anyone hasn't noticed, I recently corrected the English chapter titles for volume one and wrote a new summary. However, I don't have access to any more volumes of Case Closed (a shame, since the series is actually very enjoyable), so I can't do any more work of that type. In addition, I'm not too good at writing summaries – this is actually (one of?) the first I've ever written – so I'd appreciate feedback, corrections, additions, etc. —Dinoguy1000 16:09, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

No, the images can't stay and I have removed all of them but the one allowed. To call them a violation of WP:NONFREE would be an understatement. A chapter list gets one image, one. That image goes in the top right corner and should ideally be the first Japanese volume. No images in the graphic novel table, no images of every volume, period. Additionally images are only allowed if necessary to illustrate significant changes in cover in the English release, and then again, only one comparison in the top right corner. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 05:04, 23 May 2008 (UTC)\

[edit] "Gosho Aoyama's Mystery Library" changed?

Cover character(s) should not be the name of this section, it should be "Gosho Aoyama's Mystery Library". Cover Character implies the character on the cover of the manga is said person. This is not true, the last page of the manga has a section for detectives, and that is what is being talked about. I have no idea how to change this all back, please revert this part back for them all to say "Gosho Aoyama's Mystery Library" , not "Cover character(s)" - Prede (talk) 06:38, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

No, the correct section title is Cover characters, with a bulleted list of the characters that appear on the covers of each volume (note, text list, not images). This is in keeping with the MoS, and the instructions of the {{Graphic novel list}} template. Whatever is in "Gosho Aoyama's Mystery Library" is unlikely to belong at all, particularly if its just a single page. It can be noted that every volume includes it in the lead, or if it is only in a few volumes, add to the chapter list. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 06:48, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
The names listed under "cover characters" have nothing to do with the covers of the manga, but with the section at the end called "Gosho Aoyama's Mystery Library". This is in EVERY volume, at the end, before the adds. It is note worthy and this should be fixed, however I am unaware of how to change all those section names at once. I believe that section was in the chapter list, and either recently mvoed, or you moved it yourself. We had pictures of the cover characters, but sense that is deleted, you could make a section for "cover characters", then find out the characters by looking at the removed pictures(hassle to do). The named currently under "Cover Characters" have nothing to do with the manga covers.- Prede (talk) 06:54, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
No, it is not note worthy and it should not be "fixed" as it is not broken. Many manga series pepper volumes with character profiles, we don't include lists of those in our chapter lists either. Its an extra, and not something to go into detail about. A one sentence mention of the extra in the lead is all it requires or deserves. Otherwise its just undue weight on a minor aspect of the volume that has little to do with the series as a whole. I've removed the names listed under those headings, though, as you are correct in that they are not cover characters. Someone can go back in and add the actual character names later, by looking at the images elsewhere or their own volumes. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 07:07, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
As far as I can tell, Jimmy Kudo/Conan Edogawa is the only character that ever appears on the cover of Case Closed, and it's always in his younger (Conan Edogawa) form. Therefore, I see little reason to note this individually for *every* volume, perhaps it would be better to just note it in the lead, similar to how you suggest the "Mystery Library" should be done? —Dinoguy1000 17:10, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
If he's always the only cover character, than agreed, that can come out all together (and I have removed). -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 17:58, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

What is the "Mystery Library", anyway?--Nohansen (talk) 15:14, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

It's just a one-page picture/bio of famous (fictional only?) detectives. —Dinoguy1000 17:10, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
I certainly would doubt if that is considered encyclopedia, much less encyclopedia than the pictures Collectorian removed. --Samuel di Curtisi di Salvadori 17:14, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Exactly...nothing that needs a individual listing on every volume. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 17:58, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
