Talk:List of Canadians of Asian ancestry

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I removed Russell Peters. He may look Asian, but he is actually a Mashpee Wampanoag First Nations of the Turtle Clan.

I'm re-adding Russell Peters. There are actually (at least) two Russell Peters, and while one is from the Turtle Clan, he lives in Massachusetts. Another is a Canadian comedian who is of Anglo-Indian descent, and he seems pretty well known. In fact, his East Indian heritage is the basis for a substantial part of his material. "Asian" is not an ethnic group. Also I nominate for deletion. RyanRP 22:28, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Asian can refer to russians aswell, and anyone can pick it, someone from European descent whos family has lived in Asia for generations may consider themselves "Asian" (which isn't in itself an ethnic group Chinese, or Japanese is), and therefore any ethnicity could be considered "Asian". Also I suggest deletion. See White Canadian discussion for similar problem, brought on by many wikipedians. RyanRP 22:36, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hedy Fry

Is Trinidad & Tobago in Asia now? :) Is she of Asian origin if she's born there? Michael Daly 05:54, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Once orient but not Asia

The middle east was once referred to as "the orient". However, it's not Asia. Some of those on this list are from places like Persia, Lebanon etc. These shouldn't be considered asian. Michael Daly 05:59, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Let me re-phrase that, since, technically I guess it is Asia. In the modern perspective, most people connect East-Asia with Asia, not the Middle East. Given the large number of Middle-Eastern Canadians, they should probably rate their own, separate, page. Michael Daly 19:46, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] US not equal Canada

The Tillys should not reasonably be considered Canadian, since they were not born here nor did they live here long. Michael Daly 06:01, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
