Wentworth Miller a black Jew?? he is not black lol
-
- Yes, he is. Mr. W. Miller happens to be a Black man.
Joshua Redman's father is jazz musician Dewey Redman, who is African-American and not Jewish nor a convert to my knowledge. It is possible that Dewey's father was Jewish, though.
- You're right: Dewey Redman is not Jewish. It is in fact Joshua's mother (dancer Renee Shedroff) who is Jewish. I've corrected the entry. Juko 01:15, 22 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- PS Halle Berry's mother (Judith Ann Hawkins) is English-born and white but does not appear to be Jewish. I've removed her for now, but feel free to readd her if you can find a reliable source. Juko
- PPS Interesting tidbit: in 1994 Joshua Redman appeared on Life's a Lesson by Ben Sidran, an album of Jewish liturgical music. Juko
Despite being widely listed as having a Jewish father, I suspect that Slash, while biracial, is not half-Jewish — in Rip It Up: The Black Experience in Rock 'N' Roll, he supposedly denies it, and assigns the rumor to his Jewish-sounding birth name 'Saul Hudson' (see [1]). I've removed him for now. Juko 22:25, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)
For what it's worth, Slash did grow up in heavily Jewish West Hollywood, California and attended Fairfax High School, then heavily Jewish. This does not necessarily mean that he's Jewish, however ; he may not identify with being Jewish because of difficulties in relationships within his family.
[edit] Meskie Shibru
Meskie Shibru-Sivan is listed on "IMDb", on "Mooma" and has MORE than 100 hits on Google. [2] By the criteria listed that should be enough to include her. Regards, gidonb 16:33, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
- Personally, I think 200 hits for a current-day singer/actress is incredibly little (by national standards, let alone international ones), but whatever. Plus, you might want to change the transliteration to Meskie (73 hits), as opposed to Meski (1 hit) or Maskie (0 hits). Udzu 17:58, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
-
- First you deleted her, noting there are less than 100 hits. I proved there are more. Now you note there are less than 200 hits. Soon there will be more. What will you say then? That there are less than 300 hits? I did make the change. gidonb 18:49, 12 August 2005 (UTC)

- Don't be disingenuous. A search for "Meskie Shibru-Sivan" gave me 73 hits, which is what I used for my original comment. I then accepted both your expanded query and the entry, but expressed my remaining concerns. The fact that the Hebrew part of your query gave back only 38 hits didn't help. Having said that, I certainly hope Shibru-Sivan does become better known, having just listened to some of her music online. Udzu 20:46, 12 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Ike Turner
Is he jewish? I saw him being interviewed on TV show once, and he was wearing a star of David necklace.--Fallout boy 08:05, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
- This clearly not authoritative site is the only reference I can find listing him as Jewish, so I doubt it. I looked in the Grove Dictionary of Music but he is sadly absent. Deborah-jl Talk 00:01, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Charles Mingus
Was he jewish, as claimed in the article? Mrbluesky 18:13, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Black Jews / List of Black Jews
Black Jews / List of Black Jews look a lot like one another right now. There should be one page that is a Template:disambig for "Black Jews" and one page that is an actual list for "List of Black Jews," with a Template:dablink at the top. Someone mind doing the cutting, pasting, comparing, and alphabetizing? — <TALKJNDRLINETALK>
[edit] wtf?!!!
Slash isn'nt black, and if he is its only part so, so please explain yourself , person who thinks Slash is a black jew!
[edit] Isn't this a matter of opinion?
I think these are matters of opinion, not fact. Can I be a black jew too? According to whose definition? Do any of these have attribution we can count on? ----
[edit] Non-notable black jews
There are a few "non-notable" Black Jews listed, in that they do not have Wikipedia entries. I would suggest that either: 1) people develop entries for them; or 2) they be deleted from this list.
Thoughts?
I agree. There should most definately be a page for Diane Engber. I read her most recent novel and it was spectacular.

- That's true of most lists. I think that one of the functions of a list is to draw attention to people who should have articles.--Runcorn 12:41, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
- If that were the case, then anyone could add lots of fake or incorrect names without Wikipedia articles, and nobody would know because there is no way to check the accuracy. Lists should only have names that already have Wikipedia articles. A Wikipedia list is like a table of contents to help people find articles that already exist. If you feel that a person or topic is notable enough to have an article, feel free to write that article. Spylab 15:48, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
That shows rather a misunderstanding. It is perfectly possible to find sources to provew that someone is Jewish without writing an article.--Runcorn 21:45, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
-
- I don't agree that people's names should be added to lists if they don't have articles on Wikipedia. If a subject other than a person's name is added to a list, or in an article (and it is in red) then that could spur someone to write the article about that subject. But when we are talking about people's names then we are confronting the problem of people clamoring to get their name on Wikipedia for an accomplishment which may not meet the notability threshold. Bus stop 21:56, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
We can't have that as a general principle. For example, take President of the Royal Statistical Society (which isn't even called a list). There are plenty of redlinks there, but it is essential to have all the names. The same applies to winners of Olympic medals. It is admittedly difficult to draw the line.--Runcorn 22:02, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Bizzy Bone
I have removed bizzy bone from the list,he converted to a muslim. In most songs off his album "Evolution Of Elevation" he sasy, espiacially in the interlude song "My Name Is Bryon" in it he says "My Name is Bryon, I Am A Slave of Allah" and he goes on to say the Allah is the master and to explain to him how the big bang theory is true.
- I'm not at all sure that this is a reliable source, especially as no reference is given. See WP:RS and WP:V. In any case, even if true, if he was once Jewish he should be mentioned on the list.--86.135.189.13 20:09, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
"even if true, if he was once a jewish he should be mentioned on the list", well not really. i was once 20, does that mean i am still 20. the list is of black jewish people, and when i look at these names, half of them are not even proper jews! craig david, come on, so what if his grandmother was jewish. what if his grandmother was white, does that mean we could put him under a list of white people. same goes for lisa bonet, (just one of the names), her mother was a jew it does not mean shes a jew, because she could he a christian (seeing as her father was). this whole list is inaccurate!
The list may or may not be inaccurate. But are you helping matters by mixing up religion with race? You're even mentioning age. These are different concepts, and they should be distinguished from one another. Bus stop 18:37, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] lisa bonet
lisa bonets mother was a jew, and the religion of her father is unknown either way it does not mean she was a jew
I'm not sure if I understand your argument. You are saying her mother was Jewish therefore she may not be Jewish? Bus stop 17:41, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
